Hot take: Babcock too stubborn to move Hainsey

So he is getting lots of time as the number one pairing but no power play time.

He is too old and will burn out faster than last year.

McDermott needs to switch sides and move up from third pairing to even the first pairing. If Zaitsev and Gardiner are locked (for whatever reason), then it is only a matter of time before Hainsey plays himself off and you need a solution.

Babcock takes too long to make here decisions and gives his veterans too long of a leash.

The Kapanen move was a surprise in that it happened faster than I thought. Now I am also waiting for Johnson to play better and get moved up to the third line.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying they are all ready. Kapanen looks good now but who knows how long he can do it for.

Right now stats are a little skewed as the Leafs are the only team to have played 7 games, some teams have only played 3 games to this point.

Shaolinx putting the cock in Babcock.

As for the schedule discrepancy, better to amass points now than to make them up in March.

Why even mention he gets no PP time? He plays the whole 2 minutes of a PK. A big part of hockey is reads and making the right play. That comes from experience. Hence why Leafs develop them to their full potential the right way. Hainsey has slow feet but he's got experience and smarts. That counts for a lot. Dermott needs to be nurtured and developed to reach his full potential.

Don’t forget how worn down Hainsey got towards the end of the season.

If you want that veteran experience come playoff time, don’t you think we should save Hainsey and Anderson a bit?

Well he is old so of course. Lessons learned from last year. Perhaps rest Marleau for the playoffs as well. All the old guys. Andersen is not old but he's playing the most important position and he'll be playing every game in the playoffs. Backup just sits and comes in on blowouts.

Right, so my take is that Babcock won’t and there will be frustrated Leafs fans....it’s just building up.

Kapanens promotion satisfied a lot of us but it also gives us more ammunition for when Babs drags his feet with these other two decisions.

Dermott deserves more ice time than Hainsey. Enough already.

Believe it or not,Hainsey is the best D Bab has right now. Hainsey has no PP min but carrying a plus 7! Impressive stat with the young season. Dermott, meanwhile, could sit out on Wed. with a minus 5 showing so far.
Matthews needs to improve his defensive game as well. In 9 games he is -2 and leading the Leafs with 16pts.

Yes, that's a 12 goal difference between Hainsey and Dermott in only 9 games so please stop with the sit out Hainsey and play Dermott in the 1 hole.

Except that PP stats have no influence on +/- stats. +/- is based on even strength.

Well, Leafs were down to 5 defensemen without Hainsey late in the game protecting the lead and they did it so ...

...they can stay with 5 defencemen for every game and have an extra forward.

Trade him to Detroit ... we already really bad :(
The defensive drills Babcock put them through paid off. The Jets fan with the "Suck my Babcock" was really bush, I expected Winnipeg not to stoop to Ottawa's level, I was wrong.

I'll never forgive Don Cherry for bringing an inebriated Bob Probert on the Grapevine. He's so self-absorbed, he couldn't give a fuck. Tie Domi built his reputation on the one fight he won against Probert. Nobody mentioned that Probert couldn't fight when he was sober. Drunk, or whatever else he was on, he was an animal.

Wendell Clarke took on Probert when he was shitfaced, it wasn't pretty. John Brophy took two years out of Clark's career.
