Greta Van Fleet first show in Toronto. Toronto music scene is iconic. The Stones performed at El Mocambo.

Unlike Led Zeppelin, The Stones have always been good to Toronto. Unlike Led Zeppelin, the Stones didn't pull a snit after Keith Richards got busted. LZ performed at MLGs in 1971, Harold Ballard and Peter Grant got into a shouting match over the take. Harold got a bigger cut of the ticket sales and LZ never returned.

The way Toronto has supported GVF, I thought they were a local band. They only formed in 2012. In fact they are Michiganders. Btw what's happened to Tool?

I like their songs. But let's be honest, they're a total ripoff in a tribute band kind of way.

Horseshit.

Tribute bands don't write their own music, they just play the other band's well known classics and try to emulate the sound.

Greta Van Fleet are writing their own music and frankly, it rocks.

In watching that video in Post 1, I was surprised, but most of those people were right on with their comments.

I hope these kids do well. They really have the chops for it and it's great to see.

BTW, you can tell GVF from Led Zeppelin just by listening to the drums. The singer sounds like Plant a lot. No denying that. But the drummer, he's good, but he's a million miles away from Bonham.

They will need to evolve and create their own original imprint if they want to maintain momentum. They're really young, so they have a shot.

It's really refreshing to hear because nobody has created rock music like it in a generation, but it's not new. The guitarist is no Jimmy Page either.

I really like their songs so I hope they can become something more than a carbon copy.

GTA & Thereabouts...
They clearly have their influence(s), but GVF is a killer young band. I hope for the best as the world needs different good music.

The singer should not try to emulate Plant. When LZ formed from the Jeff Beck sessions for Truth, Page wanted the then still a teenager Plant to sing like Rod Stewart but at a higher octave. Plant lost his vocal power by the time Houses of the Holy was released. You'll notice the difference between Black Dog and Dancing Days.

A song from Showboat, the only song that Beck plays bass guitar, Page on guitar with JP Jones on organ.

GVF should also write more substantial lyrics. Robert Plant started writing his own lyrics with LZ II, when he wasn't writing about sex most of his lyrics were glorified fairy tales.

Which is why: Black Sabbath > Led Zeppelin.

John Osbourne and Tony Iommi went to watch Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby and wrote song in dedication. then they put together the rhythm section to perform it.

Rush was mistaken for Led Zep when their first album was played on the radio. At least GVF is not like Whitesnake.
They have released two EPs so only time will tell how they will evolve.
Hopefully vocalist Josh Kiszka will engage the services of a proper vocal coach so he won't burn out his voice.

Fucking impressive. That kid has the chops.

I've been waiting for the next Dylan, Lennon, Bono, Townsend and yes Plant. I had pretty much given up. All the new music is pretty much shit pop music. Then along mimes these kids.
