So much speculation about contracts and trades and who promised what and not trying hard after signing for big money, my focus is watching the games. That is more fun for me than playing analyst/GM. What can I say, I guess that I am just old school.

Draft well and trade the already good young player who has yet to reach his full potential playing on the 1st line and makes matthews better with a contract that is very good is a very bad move and I cannot see it happening irrespective of any promises.

Fix the other problems like Marleau and Hainsey. Willy is part of the solution not the problem

Shaq is right.

Stop wanking off about the salary cap and enjoy the season. Nylander's passing skills will make AM even more dangerous. He's not as flashy as Kapanen but he doesn't need to be.

Clearly Nylander is not in game shape.
He should play with the Marlies for a couple of games to get into game shape.

The Wings deserve the win as they were better in the first two periods and overtime. It didn't help when your goalie let in a couple of softies early.

Nylander cannot play in the Marlies. A team will claim him off waivers.

Bernier did it. Conditioning stint for 2 weeks. Huge letdown going from Andersen to Sparks. Most of those goals you can see Sparks head move with the puck as he watches it go into the net. First goal he is down low covering the wrap around when there's no wrap around then doesn't get up. A wrister from the blue line no screen no deflection he doesn't move. Baffling. Overtime winner his legs were moving a mile a minute he had no chance vs Larkin with his speed and smarts.

Less than 10 seconds left in the 3rd period Det hit 2 posts with one shot. Leafs very fortunate to get a point.

Sparks will have to do better, Babs cannot allow another Andersen burn out before the playoffs.

Eventually Dubas will have to deal with the defensive problem. Dubas figured he could put Pickard (who's been released by the Flyers) and McIllanhey (who playing well for the Canes) on waivers, he has another goaltending prospect in Kasimir Kaskisuo. He looked good in pre-season and was expected to be the No.1 for the Marlies. He got injured and is only just returning to action. If Sparks doesn't improve, he'll get more opportunities, the Finn will be called up.

Being fast is not flashy. Comparing to Nylander, Kapanan hits more, plays better defence and kills penalties.
Advanced stats suggest Nylander is far superior. But that was using Nylander's stats from last year, we'll have to see how he does after sitting for 8 months

Leafs groomed Kapanen to be a penalty killer and have a defensive mindset. Kapanen is is fast but Nylander is an extremely smooth skater. Apparently with very good vision and passer. Hence why he would be a good fit for Matthews who is an elite shooter. But he can also shoot himself.

Willy deserves some slack. His first competitive game since last year's playoffs. That's almost 8 months.

not always sure...

Definitely. For two periods yesterday Detroit dominated the entire team - it wasn't one shift or one player.
He hadn't even practised with them yet, so if anything blame a poor coaching decision.

Kapanen and Nylander should never be in the same car at the same time again.
Why? It's the first time in his entire career that Nylander has hit something...

I think shaolinx wants willy off of Leafs so he could say he was right all along
Actually, I just want the Leafs to do well. Fans can be critical of the team and enjoy talking sports.

I will believe Dubas is a GM god if he can execute his plan and win with nearly half the cap to just forwards.

Haha...give Nylander a month I think.

Bottom line is you have to outscore your opponent whether it is 9-8 or 1-0. The key is Andersen anyway

With infraction rules the advantage goes to the offense.

Yes, there is. And yes, he could have.
No Nylander will not want to go to the Marlies.

So, he could have gone to the Marlies, had the parent club suggested it, and young William agreed to it.
