What’s happened to the offence? We used to have guys scoring 70 goals a season and numerous players racking up well over a 100 points a season. As soon as Bettman started messing around with the rule book the offence went out the window. Now the league is looking at smaller equipment for goalies which puts their safety at risk and even rumours of bigger nets to try and increase scoring. The game has become boring and tired.
Expansion, salary cap leads to water down talent. Goalie's equipment got bigger and they butterfly.

I would say the biggest reason is the goalies. Not just the equipment but a 6' goalie is small these days. Goalies also have much more skill now. Put Mike Palmateer in his prime in net now and easily he'll let in 10 goals a game. Alan Bester or Darren Pang? At least 12 a game.

Wilson has appealed his suspension. Should Bettman turn down his appeal or refuse to reduce the suspension then Wilson has the right to appeal to an independent arbitrator who would then have the final say. He will remain suspended during the appeal process.

Don't forget about the defensive trap pioneered by the Devils.

They've all but taken fighting out of hockey. Up next body checking.
This was a clean hit. The Blues player's head was down. No way that this should have warranted 20 games.
Marchand attacks a player on the ice, sucker punches him and will get a slap on the wrist.

If he wants to play on the edge, then be prepared to face the consequences. With the appeal, I suspect the number of games to be reduced.

The next game between these two teams will be interesting.

There was more to the Marchand/Eller incident.
It appears that Eller taunted the Bruins bench after the Caps went up 7-0 and didn't exactly turtle in the ensuing scrap.

Not justifying Ellers' actions they were unsportsmanlike. Would have rather seen someone lay him out with a stiff body check then attack him. The dude doesn't fight.

I don't think the games will be reduced by that much. He is a repeat offender. They are making an example of him. Possibly a 5 game reduction but I doubt it.

Like the one Tom Wilson did on Oskar Sundqvist?
Seriously though, Eller should have known better than to shoot off his trap at the Bruins bench when they were down a touchdown.

Clean Hit????????????? And Trump NEVER cheated on a spouse. If someone tells u that was a clean hit. U can't have a discussion with them. If a conversation started off with, the earth is flat. U can't have a conversation with that person. U can have a laugh. But to engage in conversation about a ridiculous statement is foolish. That hit may not have been 20 games in the 70s,80,or the 90s, but for sure he is getting 3-5 and I also guarantee he wouldn't have left the ice without getting a beating. Tom Wilson is a big tough kid, but he is not a seasoned fighter. Remember Kelly Chase or Tony Twist. They were nowhere as good as Wilson in terms of hockey talent, but both would beat the shit out of Tom Wilson in a fight. If they were on the team one of them would have beat him into the ground that night. Cheap shot artists like Wilson have free reign because the fighters have been bread out of the NHL. So massive penalties are the only way guys like Wilson will learn. He may be the last of a dying breed in hockey.

The way you write makes it difficult to have any sensible discussion with you.

A clean open ice hit equals a 20 game suspension now a days.

The NHL has become softer than a stick of butter in the microwave...
Repeat offender much?

Perhaps your vision of NHL hockey is seeing guys target skilled players heads. It's so entertaining to see career ending concussions, isn't it.
