heartbreaker against Charlotte today. At least it doesn't change things much for us. Can't say the same for Central Florida today. They had Duke eliminated and it just slipped away.

I'd say we've given up any chance at 1st in the Eastern Conference now. Just need to work on our chemistry and health now going into the playoffs. Jeremy Lin is there if there are any injuries to Lowry or VanVleet. Then there's Ibaka, Gasol,, Danny Green, Leonard, OG and Norman Powell. Those are the nine player that will get the majority of minutes. Maybe in the next few games Nurse will give some more minutes to McCaw and Miller to see if either of them show us something.
I still thimk Powell and Lin are interchangeable just based on the highest highs and the lowest lows of each player.. I also think the seeding Gods are on the Raptors side if that means anything.

I guess we'll have to put that JV trade behind us. The team battled against two elite all stars and went 1-1, with both close games, and we led for most of both games. The season is all about playing big in big games like the playoffs. This week showed we are contenders. The team is deep and we have to stay healthy and show composure in the playoffs. Still a little work to do to finish off in 2nd in the East, and more importantly if we make it to the promised land then it would sure be nice to have opening night against the Western Conference Champions in Toronto. I'll be there for that if it happens.
Tough to do when you see JV putting up huge numbers (points and rebounds) night after night playing slightly more minutes for Memphis.

I really miss JV, Marc Gasol has more refined skills but he's not as tough. Drummond and Embiid hated playing against JV, now the Pistons have swept us. I remember the game against the 76ers, JV made Embiid look like a sick puppy and he's racking up Karl Malone level boards with the Grizzlies.
Bad trade, he was grossly under appreciated here. Now we're finding out what we lost.

Since the trade with Memphis, the Raptors team chemistry is not the same.
At the beginning of the season chemistry was awesome. JV and Ibaka were kicking ass up the middle on both sides of the ball. JV got hurt and the team began to change. Gasol does not bring what JV did and to date, Gasol, IMO, has been a disappointment!

JV seems to be putting up 22 and 12 every night. That doesn't always tell the whole story, but yes, I'm still thinking the Gasol trade might have been a mistake. One thing for sure, we've been turning over the ball a lot lately. I've noticed with the increase in passing, guys tend to get cute more often and even Golden State gives up turnovers that way, yet we don't have the same all stars to make up for the turnovers. They simply need to limit the turnovers.

i think Powell has played great since he came back from injury this year. He plays like a veteran. By the way, Jodi Meeks showed a nice little floater to go with his outside 3 ball last night. Lin continues to frustrate fans. Unfortunately McCaw will sit out with a bruised thumb until the playoffs. Maybe that will give Malcolm Miller some time to prove himself. These two may or may not be that impactful this year, but I like them both for the Raptors future. Keeping Miller, McCaw and VanVleet along with Siakam, OG for the foreseeable future seems to be a nice future core. The future once again may have been messed up a little by trading the younger Valunciunas(younger than Gasol by about 8 years!)

these games are getting a little exhausting to watch. I think everyone is ready for the playoffs here in Toronto. 6,7 and 8th seeds in the East are going to be a battle right to the end though.

Has anyone figured out what the Raps are paying Leonard per "game played." He maybe the highest paid player in the league on that basis. I doubt he signs here. And based on my observations of Gasol I hope they don't pick up his option. Jeremy Lin, I understood why they picked him up, I don't understand why they are still playing him.
3 game winning streak on the line tonight against the Magic, Raps need to start kicking ass. Fine to beat up on the Knicks and Bulls but here is a team fighting for a playoff spot, kick their asses and clinch the 2 seed!

Gasol contract has a player option.
Right, which really makes the trade suck cause you know Gasol will pick up the option and he ain't worth it. Watching him last night against the Magic, don't know whether he hasn't got it anymore or he just doesn't fit into the Raptor's system, something is not right! Playoffs getting closer and supposedly they got him for the playoffs so lets hope the Marc Gasol shows up that Masai expected cause the one I've seen, so far, sucks!

I'm not so sure. In Gasol's last 9 games he was +17, +12, +23, +11, +7, +3, +16, +22, +25. Even when the dude isn't scoring points, he's still a net positive out there. JV was a +2 after his recent 34/20 game. When Gasol started the 14 games we average 29.8 assists per game which is #1 in the NBA. This means less iso which is a huge plus in the playoffs. Kyle Lowry was ecstatic when he heard we traded for Gasol. In last night's game he was +25 with 13 points against a desperate Orlando team fighting for a playoff spot. Orlando had won 3 out of 4 including a 20 point blowout over Philadelphia. This was a game that meant little to us and everything to Orlando and we blew them out. I like the trade for the potential in the playoffs.

Wawa sees the intangible. Just watch the ball zip around now and the off the ball movement. Everyone's FG % (esp 3pt) is up since the all star break and we are tops in assists and offensive efficiency. Even the d has moved up. Issues have been with second group but playoff rotation will get us refocused. Slowly AND surely, they'll really get it. Yes, still TBD, but as rotation gets trimmed, and he gets more time, rest of the group improves. Can't wait for that April 12 noon playoff game slot :sorry:

I see your points, but I still am not a fan. Knicks Bulls (twice) and Magic all sub par teams and bottom feeders. Yes Magic are battling for the final playoff spot but they aren't much. His best days are behind him. In his first ten games here Raps were 5 and 5 well below their performance prior to his arrival. Gasol can pass the ball I will give you that, unfortunately I don't see much else from him. Until he is consistently good against teams that can perform I won't be a believer. Playoffs are coming and supposedly that is what he is here for, hope he proves me wrong.

Probably going to have him here for another year as I can't see him not exercising that option. Was much happier believing it was a team option!

wawa you say the game meant nothing to the Raps and everything to Orlando, I disagree, after losing games to likes of Charlotte Detroit Brooklyn it was time to make a statement and they did! Lets see how they perform tonight.

In his first 10 games, Raps were 7-3.

Raps are 15-7 since the trade, with 3 or 4 games we could have won.
For whatever reason I had the trade taking place at the end of Feb. rather than near the beginning, so you are correct. and there were 3 or 4 games they should have won.
watched Gasol a little more closely last night and still not a fan but he does have a high basketball IQ which should be a benefit come playoff time.

Norm Powell was the key to our win today against Miami. He's looking like the last piece to fall into our playoff puzzle. Lowry, Leonard, Green, Gasol/Ibaka, and Siakam (pretty potent starting 5) Then off the bench: VanVleet, Gasol/Ibaka, Powell.

I like OG. He keeps missing games unfortunately, and when he comes back he's trying to hard to get "his". He might still have a big role, if it comes to a platoon defending the likes of the Greek Freek or Blake Griffen, or any other opposing monster. I'd like to see him settle in and get some productive minutes, but we'll have to see.
