For online verification purposes like Twitter, Google, Uber etc, they require an actual phone number and codes never reach you if you use an app number.
I think PetroCan has a cheap pay-as-you-go phone too, so does Loblaws/Real Canadian Superstore. 7-11 has the best deal for minutes that last the longest.
With 7-11, top-ups last an entire year. With others it fluctuates from 30 to 90 days depending on how much you spend.
You can also use Vanilla gift cards as your credit card to top up online. Just make sure the postal code you use for everything matches up.
This has been my choice for a few years now.

The Vanilla cards work online without fail. You can assign a postal code. Worst case scenario, you can create a PayPal account and pay with that. PayPal lets you have gift cards in your “wallet” for payment.
I'm not calling you a liar but for me it has worked just fine for twitter and google. No idea about uber though. Both solutions have their pros and cons it seems.
I created a twitter account in 2010 so what do I know? I closed my account a couple years ago and haven’t been happier lol
As for google, I personally just use another email address for verification. If I can’t remember the password, I chuck the account and create a new one.
I think you could still use a payphone...do they have them anywhere? Or ask your fave escort if she will give you codes with her number. There’s always a way when you’re determined and careful enough.

Do the Vanilla cards have any service fees? If so, do you pay for them upfront? E.g. If someone buys a $100 gift card, will they have the entire $100 to spend, or is it only something like $95 because, oops! You just got dinged $5.00 off the top for an activation or something?
