Ottawa has traded Karlsson to San Jose.

To Ottawa; forward Chris Tierney, defenceman Dylan DeMelo, and forward prospects Josh Norris and Rudolfs Balcers — as well as a first-round draft pick (2019 or 2020) and a second-round pick in 2019. If the Sharks miss the playoffs in 2018-19, that first-rounder will be in 2019; otherwise, it’s a 2020 first-round pick that will go to Ottawa.

The Sens may be in worse shape than the Habs, who wants to work for Eugene Melnyk. Karlsson may never recover, it's a risky trade for the Sharks. Foot injuries are very problematic, Peter Forsberg comes to mind.

Larry Tanenbaum learned a hard lesson from Richard Peddie, he shut Melnyk out of MLSE. We got lucky to Ottawa detriment. La Breton Flats is a flood plain, used to keep flood waters from the Ottawa River from spilling into Centretown. Not sure if building a hockey arena there is such a good idea. The Glebe would have been a better choice.

LaBreton Flats in a nutshell.

Sharks are cup favorites.
Where?

According to the 1st 2 sites I went to, the Sharks sit in a group of teams with the 6th shortest odds to win the Cup.
The 5 teams with shorter odds are
Toronto
Tampa
Boston
Nashville
Winnipeg
then
San Jose/Pittsburgh/Vegas

Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic.

A reasonably good defence.

I lived not far from the LeBreton flats area for close to thirty years and never once saw any flooding there. It's West of centre town by a ways.

The banks going along the Ottawa river are pretty steep on that side unlike the Quebec side which did have flooding last year.

It's the perfect place for an arena because of the LRT https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederation_Line that is being built right now. And of course it's proximity to Gatineau.

There is no place in the Glebe for an arena. Landsdowne park before the renovations of a few years ago would have been the only site available but that's where TD Place Stadium is. There is very little parking there and access by any other means

Good to see the Leafs are Stanley Cup favourites again this year, just like they were last October!
Named by the same experts that picked the Edmonton Oilers as Stanley Cup favourites last year, so that's meaningful.

To be fair though, last season the Leafs might have won their first playoff series in 14 years, except that the Bruins played a lot better than they did.

Anyone picking a Leaf/Oiler Stanley Cup Final this year? Their defensive talent is pretty comparable....

....
The Maple Leafs were not Stanley Cup favourites last October.
It was at some point mid-season that they were given the shortest odds, for a week or so.
At no point were the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup favourites last season.

Cut'n'paste from "The Score" one year ago:

Sidney Crosby versus Connor McDavid for the 2018 Stanley Cup?
Don't bet against it, oddsmakers say.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers have risen to the top of the board when it comes to this season's Cup favorites.
Meanwhile, stay far away from Detroit, New Jersey, Arizona, Vancouver, and Vegas.

Yeah but Vegas is not up to date on Leafs hockey history.

Insidious von is the cliff clavin of this board. He thinks he knows everything, but some of the things he says are total nonsense.

There is much more development happening in the flats beyond just an arena. And an nhl arena is not possible in the glebe.
