PC Optimum points - Dont bother ( scam )

I have been buying groceries at Loblaw and affiliated stores regularly. Spending $250-300 per week and for two big family events this summer. When I checked my PC optimum points there was very few points awarded. Every time I go to a Loblaw and affiliated store they ask if I have a card and they swipe it on the electronic scanner to make you believe that you are getting something. In reality you only get points for the items advertised with bonus points and you do not receive anything on everything else. You do get points on everything at Shoppers Drug Mart plus additional bonus points on some items. The PC Optimum points card only tracks your buying habits, and you are doing this almost for free.

I would like to know what the best points card is.

Dude, are you going online to load the "offers" every week - I have been cashing in loads of dollars. If you don't load you aren't going to earn.

There, you see. I will bet maybe 1 or 2 people out of a hundred know that you need to load offers. That is how they suck people in to shop at their stores.

I like that Esso now awards 10 PC card points for every litre of gas purchased, and more points for purchases of other items inside their convenience stores.

I must be the second one. Shoppers always made you load offers (a dumb thing IMO) so I was used to it when they switched over. I do agree that it is easier to rack up points at Shoppers than at the grocery stores. And even though they are all owned by same company, prices are not the same. I will buy stuff at Shoppers that makes sense and get points, then usually cash in the points at the grocery store. Since they combined the cards it is nice that they have a more linear earning system and you can cash them in faster.

I do pretty much the same thing. I get most of my points at shoppers and cash in at loblaws/superstore.

I'm quite happy with my Canadian Tire Mastercard. Everyone in my family consistently gets .10 cents off per litre of gas, or roughly $5.00 per fill up.

This is totally stupid to me. I don't know why they just didn't combine the cards. Now when you go to Esso do you give them your Esso Extra card or Optimum card? From what I understand you get more points on the Optimum so may as well throw my Esso Extra.

For Esso - you choose depends on what you want. I use Esso card for the points for cash washes.

Yes you load offers.

Anyone dumb enough to get a points card and NOT read about how to maximize it should be looking at themselves when bitching. Like seriously, should toilet paper makers wipe you ass too.

I am a points fiend!!!!! On all my cards. Cash back visa, Costco/PC MasterCard, Air Miles. Scene card.

I don't think I have paid for a movie at the theatre in over 2 years now maybe. I get about $10 back for every Rogers Bill I get, I have at least $120 in free groceries right now from my PC Optimum. I don't pay my executive Costco membership because I rack up cash back on their card.

I use these companies and their points for free shit all the time. 3% cash back on everything from my visa. And I pay the balance every month. These people pay me. Not the other way around.

READ, use properly, get free shit/money. Can't complain unless you personally are not doing it right.

Bb69 - may have to chat about the CT card. I was looking into that too.

Downloading the offers is key to getting your points. When I first got my PC Optimum card I was remembering to have it scanned at the checkout but wasn't getting much of anything much in the accumulation of points. I had downloaded the app on my cell phone & now I was getting lots of points as it would then download all the specials for that week. The PC Optimum App is seeing your buying trends & in the following weeks you start to see points on items you had bought during the previous weeks. Have to keep in mind that a 1000 points is only a dollar!

Strange. Just the other day I got a $70 credit cashed at No Frills with the points that I accumulated in less than a year, without having to load any offers or deals or such.

Your receipt shows you the points you’ve earned for the transaction - shown at the bottom, broken into regular and bonus points. If you get on their email list and use the phone app, you can find out about bonus days and the app automatically loads all offers when you open and refresh the app. If you can wait until a bonus day it’s even better. I’m a kind of a sucker for loyalty programs so time big purchases for bonus days (and fly airlines and stay in hotels based upon loyalty programs). It’s a great untaxed benefit!

If you have the app, they automatically load from my understanding. I don't actually "load" my offers either.

Shit... Essguy_ You beat me too it. LOL

And I forgot Hotel Loyalty Programs too. Those are awesome. Any regular touring/hotel incall lady would benefit more from loyalty programs then booking cheaper on a site like Priceline. They may give you the cheaper rate for that day, but nothing beats free stays, upgraded rooms, early/late check in/outs, free meals, etc.
