Dubas studied hard under Lou, I wouldn't put it passed him to get Marner signed before the playoffs. It won't be easy, Marner is becoming to the Leafs what Martin St Louis was to the Lightning.

AM is getting stronger. He's been playing with a tender shoulder since coming off the injury list. He wouldn't have scored the third goal a month ago.

Was that Marner I saw blocking shots in the final minute of last night's game? If yes, what was Babcock thinking? Marner is the franchise.

Marner is the franchise.
He is valuable, exciting and very good, but he is not the franchise.

Gretzky was the franchise, Mario was the franchise, Lebron is the franchise. Matthews, Rielly, Tavares, Anderson are all approximately as important as Marner.

Clark took on all the biggest and best fighters out there. He was all offense when fighting. His defense was punch you out first. He wasn't a heavy weight. Like Domi so that's more impressive. Fearless and confident in his fighting abilities.

Late in Domi's career he was losing it so he let Belak do the fighting for him. Which NHL goon in the history of the NHL got so much fanfare for playing 1000 games? Only Domi.

John Ferguson played half as many games as Domi and had 10 times the impact both in fighting and hockey skills. The toughest son of a bitch that I have seen in 58 years of watching hockey.

Too bad that his son was such a terrible GM.

Probert and Domi had defense in their fighting. Probert would block the punches coming in with his arm. Domi would straight arm with his head turned. He would yank to get his opponent off balance then throw his punch. Domi taught Belak this technique.

After Ferguson retired, I vaguely remember he said that he would plant one of his skates along the board for support when he got into a fight. Not sure if he actually said that or if true.

Was either or both Probert and Domi left handed?

Max Domi is not a big guy and considered a skilled player but I think players are afraid of him. He has the pit bull face just like his dad

John Ferguson was a necessary dirty player when he thought it would benefit the Habs.

I still remember the photo of Bobby Hull with his bloody jaw wired shut, courtesy of a JFSR cross check to the face. Hull lost it and probably would have killed Ferguson on ice if the refs hadn't intervened. Hull had Larry Robinson level strength.
...and it worked, the Canadiens won back the Stanley Cup that year.

Mtl power play is terrible but Muzzin looks good out there killing the penalty in overtime and that was quite the shot from Nylander. Should be a doozy if they meet in the playoffs. They should have met in the finals when Mtl last won the cup.

I keep hearing rumours of Wayne Simmonds coming to Toronto.

With all due respect to Habs fans, they are overachieving. More than likely the Leafs are going against the Bruins again. With that scenario, Simmonds makes sense - just don't make it addition by subtraction...don't give up a Johnson and a top prospect to get him. He is 30 after all.

I don't see so many posts lately calling for Willie Nylander to be traded.
Odd, that.

I am all for trading him if the return makes it a good trade for the Leafs.

Nylander is playing better but he isn't even remotely close to a $7 million player.
He needs to get a lot better than he has ever played or this deal stinks.

Kapanen is a better player. More productive, kills penalties, much better attitude and he is also young.

Nylander is more reserved than Kapanen however the Fin cannot match his puck handling skills. It's happened before, Johnny Goudreau went into a 14 game funk after he signed his contract. Babcock was right, Nylander didn't have the benefit of training camp and the more relaxed early season. If you're going to trade him, you better get a top 3 defenseman in return.

How messed up are the Edmonton Oilers? With the return of Sekera imminent, they will be over the salary cap. They will have to put one or two players on waivers to avoid paying a luxury tax. One of the players being mentioned is Alex Petrovic, Leafs should seriously consider picking him up.

Connor McDavid me dispiace!

As we're getting closer to the first round of the playoffs it looks more apparent that the Leafs and the Bruins will meet again. Bruins will have home ice advantage. I thought I read it somewhere that Andersen is below .500 vs. the Bruins. Maybe, we should be trading for another goalie by Monday. LOL!
