That was a tremendously exciting game vs Blues. Blues are the hottest team right now. Unbeaten in 10 prior to meeting Leafs and 3 straight shutouts plus 2 periods vs Leafs. Blues dominated 1st period. They really looked like they were a top team if not the top team next to TB. Hard to believe they were last place in the whole league at one time and some Leafers were dreaming of trading for Parayko. Some say Blues play like the Bruins. Bruins Pasternak injured right now. Imagine him back for the playoffs.

Leafs dominated the 3rd period. With Kadri injured Matthews played with more passion than I've ever seen in a long time. After it was tied the game could have gone either way. In overtime one turnover is all it takes.

I didn't see much of the game but kudos to Leafs for coming back from a 2 goal deficit to get a point on the road vs. the hottest team in the NHL right now. I maintain that there is enough talent on this Leaf squad to hang with anyone in the league. But talent only goes so far. You need chemistry, hustle, consistency, mental stamina and toughness which the Leafs are lacking in to various levels.

Yes. Agreed.

Definitely feel like the current configuration is not optimized.

Nylander and Matthews needs more time playing together. Johnsson needs to move up. Marleau needs less time.

Hainsey needs to be with Dermott. Muzzin needs to play more.

I agree with you when Dermott and Hainsey were playing together they meshed well. Same with Rielly and Muzzin. I'd like to see Zaitsev in the press box his play has been cringeworthy most of the season. I really think we need to trade for a right shot defense man.
Marleau looks slow out there, I think father time has caught up to him. Great guy and unbelievably durable. He hasn't missed a game in 8 seasons.

Bruins trade for Charlie Coyle. A 3rd line center. Apparently fills a hole. To match Kadri I suppose. So Boston has 2 Charlie's vs Leafs with2 Jake's.

I don`t get the talk about Kapanen getting around half as much as Nylander.
Why? He's about half the player Nylander is.

If you say so, it must be true.

He was afraid to take a hit and totally useless in the playoffs last year but he is young and has a lot of potential.
Hopefully Nylander will develop into a $7 million player one of these years.

In this case, I disagree with you. He is the absolute worst announcer in Canada. He just tried too hard to be flowery like Danny Gallivan but he could never pull it off. My son and I always laugh about him using "luminescent" to describe a player.

He can go back to do the Spengler Cup. https://tirereviews.co
Hi,
I definitely agree to you, I also dislike how he is describing the game.

Rielly shows why he's a leader. Talks to Domi and tells him to stop bullying Johnnson. I commend Johnnson for playing through all of Domi's antics.

Lindholm, Ennis, Brown, Johnnson, Marner, Nylander are all super soft. Their big guys Matthews and Gauthier play soft. Their only bangers are Hyman and Kadri and they don't scare anyone. That's pretty much their whole compliment of forwards along with Marleau and Kapanen.

Lindholm and Brown kill penalties. Too bad Gauthier is just big and nothing else. No PK and no PP. Ennis, well he has some skill. They had Martin last year and he didn't make them a better team.

This is the first time in my life that I saw an "awarded goal" real time. Proof that if one lives long enough one will see everything (maybe even another Leaf Stanley Cup). I guess they can't really award a penalty shot on an empty net.

Trivia question: Which Toronto Maple Leaf was credited with a goal without actually putting the puck inside the net?

Great game! Leafs need to add a bit of toughness and try to replace either Gardiner or Zaitsev.
I think the Maple Leafs showed plenty of toughness in last night's game.
They beat the hell out of & pounded the twine behind Carey Price into submission.

Toughness and grit is more of a playing style. Look at notorious teams that are hard to play against: Vegas, Montreal and Tampa come to mind. Only one has real elite talent.

The leafs rely on skill and stretch passes. They don’t grind like other teams and I don’t want a trade just for one tough guy when it is more of a systems problem.

This says more about your youth than anything. I've seen player throw their stick to knock the puck away when chasing a guy skating in on an open net. I've seen own team score in their own net with the net pulled and in the offensive zone. Passing it back to the defenseman who isn't there. Hyman's goal was not a wow moment.

What is a wow moment is seeing player skate in on an open net all alone with puck into blue paint and puck bounces off his stick. Turnover and other team roars back and scores the tying goal.

Something I'd like to see but have never seen before is player getting a penalty while on the bench during action. I'd like to see a player stick someone while on bench with other player flying down the ice along the boards.
I've seen it in football with an assistant coach tripping a player.

I have seen this. Must be ~20 years ago now.
Likely the only reason I remember it as well as I do, is I had some cash on the game.
A Sunday night game in Chicago.
It was 2-1 (or 3-2?) late, one of the players on a bench reached out and grabbed the player on the ice, who was ahead of the pack, with the puck, toward an open net.
The player went for a spill, whistles blew.
It was 1st time I'd ever seen an "awarded goal", and it won the bet for me.
I'd taken the favourite, -1 1/2 goals.

Trade Deadline Day! Love it!
Would you offer Kadri for Stone? Ottawa will say no for sure. But, Leafs can throw in prospects and picks along with Kadri for a rental - Stone. Or better yet, give them Nylander straight up for Stone. I know Stone is older but...
Fun day,indeed!
