Cadet Bone Spurs’ Military Parade gets postponed...

The Pentagon has said that the Washington military parade which Trump wanted for November 2018 has been postponed with further study for possible 2019 dates (LOL). Trump wanted so much to salute his troops with his tiny hands and feel like a strongman leader. Cost estimates had escalated, with the expense of moving equipment, temporary pay for all the people, etc pushing the cost $80 mln above initial estimates. Trump had wanted the military to wear various period uniforms too, like a big costume parade, further pushing costs. The initial reaction to this idea from military leaders was one of derision, so it’s not really surprising to see it canned.

This, combined with McCraven’s criticisms of Trump makes it pretty obvious how Cadet Bone Spurs is viewed as a pathetic joke amongst military leadership. I guess they’ll put up with him as long as he keeps buying them stuff on credit though. (Note that when Trump signed the military spending bill, named after John McCain, he managed to do it without mentioning McCain’s name even once. So it’s not just his hands that are small).

Seems peculiar that the French can manage a annual combined arms parade, and Trooping the Colour goes off every year. But the U.S.A. can't manage it without breaking the bank?

Why can't they have a parade just like the last one Anwar Sadat attended?

What are you suggesting?
Nobody in a position of leadership in the military (past or present) thought that this was a good idea, right from the beginning. The US Military has evolved and parade marching through a capital just to please a leader with delusions of grandeur is not something they do. IF you think this was about the money then you're as delusional as Trump (who is NOW claiming that HE cancelled the parade and that the money saved will go towards "buying more jets"). Yes, Trump actually tweeted this morning that the money saved will go towards buying more military jets. It makes you wonder how many he think's he'll be able to get for $90 mln.

So what you are implying is that rather than seeking the best way to carry out this Presidential Request the military has sought to stonewall it? Given that the request is lawful that would seem to imply the overthrowing of civilian control of the military.

No, that would imply that military planners stonewalled a stupid request - something that has been done in Govt for years. Oh, and Washington (the city) added their bill to the tab as well. A "lawful request" doesn't mean it's a good request. This was an absolutely dumb idea, made by a guy who deferred service because of "bone spurs" (which would have prevented him from marching, LOL). You will not find many active or retired military who thought this was a good idea or even "American", in the sense that these types of displays are more common in military dictatorships. And feel free to bring up France again - if that makes you feel better. France has been holding Bastille Day parades since the 1880's, so there is tradition. The US has the most modern, mobile military in the world - nothing traditional about it - it is constantly evolving, and parades are just not something they do, nor want to do.

It implies that the military thought it was a stupid fucking idea and politely pointed it out to POTUS which is like...ummmm...you know...their job.

That great patriot and paragon of maturity will instead go to France and watch the parade in Paris. LOL. Could you make this stuff up?

Russia has a pretty good parade too - on May day in Moscow. Putin attends every year and waves at the thousands of soldiers and they salute right back. I wonder where Trump got the idea of a parade?

. . . . parades are just not something they do, nor want to do.
The only problem with this is that the U.S. has held military parades throughout its history, and Army Reserve National Guard units in particular have an extremely long history of them going straight back to the Colonial Period.

When was the last time the U.S. has held, let alone proposed the type of display herr trump is looking for?

I will give you a hint. Almost 30 years ago and that was to acknowledge the end of the Gulf War. It wasn't to satisfy the ego and delusions of a wannabe autocrat.
