August 16 at 2:44 PM

William H. McRaven, a retired Navy admiral, was commander of the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command from 2011 to 2014. He oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid in Pakistan that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Dear Mr. President:

Former CIA director John Brennan, whose security clearance you revoked on Wednesday, is one of the finest public servants I have ever known. Few Americans have done more to protect this country than John. He is a man of unparalleled integrity, whose honesty and character have never been in question, except by those who don’t know him.

Therefore, I would consider it an honor if you would revoke my security clearance as well, so I can add my name to the list of men and women who have spoken up against your presidency.

Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs.

A good leader tries to embody the best qualities of his or her organization. A good leader sets the example for others to follow. A good leader always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself.

Your leadership, however, has shown little of these qualities. Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation.

If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken. The criticism will continue until you become the leader we prayed you would be.

Retired Adm. William McRaven, the man who oversaw the 2011 Navy SEAL raid that killed Osama bin Laden, issued a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump's decision to revoke the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan, defending the former spy chief as "one of the finest public servants I have ever known."

McRaven has real integrity unlike Trump, and can be really trusted to make such a call.

What a load of shit. Where is the condemnation of Brennan for accusing the President of the United States of treason? Still a capital crime and STILL without any evidence!! Without that this letter is another load of shit.

How many times has Trump uttered allegations without evidence?

Does he still think that Obama "tapped his wires"?

The "evidence" came straight out of Trump's own mouth. Trump took the side of Russia when said he believed Putin and threw the United States under the bus.

FWIW, he directly said that Trump's denial of collusion is hogwash. Coming from the Director of the CIA when this was going on... is something I'd take note of.

And now the Pentagon has postponed Trump’s wish for a huge Washington military parade, which was to be bigger than his pals Putin and KJU. It’s hilarious that the Pentagon waited until AFTER Cadet Bone Spurs had signed the McCain spending bill before announcing that they had to give his parade a deferment (NOBODY in the military leadership thought that the parade was a good idea).

LOL! And what does that have to do with anything!?? If a senior government official, even a former one, accusses the sitting President of a capital crime, he better have irrefutable evidence that leads to a Congressional action that ends in removal of the Chief Executive. Of course none of it happened and Brennan was just slinging shit from his perch at the MSNBC. Let's get something straight, maybe be honest for once, Trump won the election and the people who feel entitled to direct the course of the country were left behind. Hence, the bitterness over the lost status. And here's a prediction- it's not Trump who will pay the price for this. He is the one with the mandate, the one who prevailed in the arena of ideas. They are just fellating minions of the swamp, a society of mutual masturbation, at best.

Well Brennan's actions do fit the Trumpian definition of treason:

"Saying bad things about me, even though they are true"

I understood the definition was, "not applauding when I say things that aren't true".

Perhaps it's really "whatever I say it is this time". Which explains why — apart from Poor Sarah and her team — even his own people ignore what he says most of the time.

The point of the letter was to criticize Trump’s need to silence and punish critics. For many, Trump’s Helsinki debacle was more than enough “evidence” and Brennan is expressing his opinion, which is not illegal yet. And Brennan’s opinion is based upon years of experience. As for your contention that there is no evidence, that’s a load of shit. The question is: is there enough evidence? Only the willfully blind or the stupid would say there is no evidence.

If there was evidence of treason, he'd be prosecuted. A clueless talking head throwing treason accusations around is NOT evidence.

Where is your case, aside from the ad hominem???? Or is critical thinking treason, too? Perhaps racist?

“Mr. Trump has recently leveraged his status as a reality TV star/conman with access to highly sensitive information to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations — wild outbursts on the internet and television — about anyone who disagrees with him,” Sanders said, honestly describing the President.

“Mr. Trump's lying and recent conduct, characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary, is wholly inconsistent with access to the nation’s most closely held secrets and facilitates the aim of our adversaries, which is to sow division and chaos,” she continued.

No, he would be prosecuted if he is ever charged with treason - which may or may not happen. If he is charged, that doesn't mean he will be found guilty either. It's like OJ - there was plenty of evidence but it fell short of being enough that he was prosecuted. Don't conflate this to say that there is "no evidence". Trump's bizarre performance in Helsinki is one good piece of evidence - which is what Brennan was commenting on. Trump's conduct and performance was shameful during that news conference - even he knew it, which is why he tried to backtrack with the "would/wouldn't" nonsense. Only fools bought that.

Further, security clearance for retired officials is so that they can still be called upon to provide input. By revoking Brennan's clearance, Trump is denying the US Intelligence community from any of his input and knowledge. So in that sense, Trump has made his country less safe all because he cannot tolerate criticism.
