While this guy (and company) started out 3d printing guns I think they’ve moved to CNC of 80% complete components to finished specs. I don’t think there is a security barrier issue (like there would be with plastic) but this would negate background checks and unique identifiable weapons.

If I want an AR-15 I’ll just buy one, no need for one without a #, happy to do the background check.

you would also need the blueprint for printing bullets.

Isn't the whole point that you don't have to buy one, that you can print it yourself? If I want a gun I'll just go to Walmart, or the park.

You're right the whole point of this is to have a gun that is untraceable. I don't really understand what legal argument is all about... Well I get it to a point but I think it's futile. The cat is already out of the bag. After a similar thread I downloaded the files just to check out what was so special, there wasn't much. Just a few more mouse clicks and maybe some thought into what colour I wanted and I'd have one of these already.

Sure the government might deem then illegal and so they should but how do they police it? It would be just as hard to police the downloads for this as it would be for the millions of illegal mp3s downloaded.

FWIW I hate guns so I have no interest in this.

Also I'm not calling anyone a liar as I really don't know but I can't see in any way why they would CNC these. Being a plastic gun I would think it would be destroyed after a single shot. What tolerances do you need to hold a single round in place and have a firing pin hit it?

A US judge is trying to block the release of the printers right now which is sad and troubling.

Can't wait to get my hands on one to start printing an arsenal.
No. What's being blocked is the publication of the software that prints the gun. You can still buy all the 3D printers you can afford.

I'm wondering now, whether you really meant your title question: Will you buy a 3D printed gun? Or did you really mean: Will you buy the software, those blueprints Reuters referred to?

Buying a deadly weapon made of some plastic you know nothing about, printed-off by some 400 pound kid in his mother's basement would be stupid, unless you wanted an curiosity and immediately made it non-firing. By the time you've tested and verified the materials and manufacture you might as well have come home from the gun shop with a Glock.

Cazzelino, you're saying this for shock value. Why would you want a 3d gun? I'll sell you one of my hunting rifles if it makes you feel like a man.

If 3D-printers one day do become illegal, what would happen to all the millions of people who already own 3D-printers? Will the government hunt them all down and take them away? Or even arrest them for still keeping them?

FFS the article is about making the gun blueprint files illegal and not the 3D printers.

Please entertain us by streaming your Q&A testing of said printed arsenal
You should join me. I'll be printing it in my basement where it's safe.

Probably not, but I can see why the judge blocked it. Kind of troubling that you can so easily print killing machines without going through the proper channels.
