I hate that the "American Disease" is creeping into our city again.

I person I most want to hear from is Bill Blair, he implemented the last gun crackdown after Jane Creeva was murdered. He's been given broader powers by Trudeau as Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime. I suspect it's going to take him the remainder of the summer to set up his new office, after that I expect decisive action. I crazed gunman running through one of our city's most jubilant streets cannot be tolerated.

Has he commented yet?

That twitter video is shocking. Not graphic.

But to catch it just as it occurred. Clearly there is more as nobody stops recording right at the start. I wonder if the cops can bury the rest of it. Looks like they have it locked down so far.

I was nearby in another restaurant. They wouldn't let us leave and locked the doors. I can't believe it would happen on the Danforth. :(
Glad to hear you are ok. There are at least two members who live in and around the Danforth. Has anyone heard from the other one?

Actually, this is no surprise to those of us who know the Danforth. The Toronto Sun article below was published exactly 3 years ago and things have gotten worse since. This is not your father's Danforth/Greektown.

P.S. Spoke to someone earlier this afternoon and he said his friend's son was shot in the abdomen. This is hitting too close to home. Talk about 3 degrees of separation.

The high crime area of the Danforth is from Pape to Woodbine stretching 4-5 blocks north.

Unfortunately this kind of thing, like the van attack on Yonge Street is next to impossible to prevent. If someone is hell-bent on committing such terrible crimes, they're going to do it. Very sad!

Just like the guy who mowed down innocent pedestrians at Yonge and Finch a couple months ago, it's the most disturbing type of crime because there is really nothing anyone can do about it.

You can't blame the police, because they can't really do anything until the crime has already occurred. This isn't Minority Report, you can't see the crime before it happens.

If someone has guns and is mentally unstable, how do you stop them before they start firing?

This reminds me of the guy in Colorado 5 years ago, who just started opening fire in the movie theater, it's so chilling because it could have been any one of us and there's nothing we can do about it.

And who wants to be on alert for this kind of thing when you're having dinner and drinking and trying to relax? I don't want to be all paranoid all the time.

Edit:
I see Game Boy just said some of the same things as me, he must have posted while I was writing this, lol

IMO, it is/was inevitable. In so many ways American culture, and subsequently behavior, bleeds into ours.

Breaking News:

Bill Blair is in town and has been conferring with Saunders and Tory. I don't know if they'll issue a joint statement.

That's exactly what happened. ^^^

All we can hope is that this doesn't happen again. There's always the possibility this can trigger a copycat...

Only 3 options IMO:

1. Domestic/foreign terrorism
2. Incel
3. Gang warfare

2 confirmed dead now (not sure if that includes the gunman)
If it was number 3, we would see stuff about black people being protected classes and a bunch of other racist shit. Plus this thread would be longer.

Number 2 has a strong supporter in Jordan Peterson

2 girls confirmed dead. One is 18-years old, the other 9.
The 9-year old was shot in the back

Also, there are a bunch of victims in the hospital with life-altering injuries.
Usually when cops say that they are hinting at bullets hitting the spine and causing paralysis, or other vital organs getting hit

Who's the muderer by the way? What's his motivation? All we knew from the media is he's 29 years old.
Seriously? The shooting just happened late last night. Give LE a chance to do their investigation. This isn't an episode of CSI.

Reese Fallon, 18, was killed in the attack, according to Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, who represents a nearby area.

The difference between Canada and the US is pretty evident here. Nobody is spewing the typical "if only more citizens were armed" rhetoric!

I heard other nonsense like put armed military at ever block downtown Toronto. Thats the dumbest solution I heard yet.
All a gunman has to do is sneak up behind the army guy, shoot him in the head, and go on his merry way.

Unfortunately there are no easy answers to all this. There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop someone from renting a van and mowing down 50 people on a crowded sidewalk.
More gun-control wont work either, because its easier to get an illegal gun then it is to get a permit for a gun

The only thing that could stop this is someone with a pistol shooting back, Concealed Carry is the way to combat this

I used to think that was the stupidest response.
I’m starting to think otherwise.

When I’m out at particular times or places I do now always have in mind what I have with me or near me that could be a defensive weapon.
