Do you remember how you learned about sex ed when you were young? For me it was not through the school (maybe it was osmosis). Kids today have so much information at their fingertips. It amazes me to hear from you that there are tons of kids who are that ignorant - About the subject and/or how to learn it about it on their own. Maybe you are right and the education system is letting the kids down.
Youtube and porn isn't the answer.
That's the default these days so you need to a new mandate that answers the questions kids can seen online every day.
Not this 1950's shit.

There are good parents and bad parents out there, ....
And that's my point. The 'good' parents don't need any help but the schools are there to help the rest. And yes, there are some bad teachers but unlike the not quite good parents, they have at least been trained in the topic.

And are you really saying shows like Glee or Will and Grace (or the dozens of other shows that have gay characters) aren't positively impacting societal views on homosexuality?

Yes there is a ton of information and that is the problem. If kids are learning about sex, dating, and consent from the internet there are some major issues to address.

Umm...I didn't make any comment about Ford voters or the elction. I guess that diversion means you are unable to address any of the points I made.

Thankfully we have schools, children's aid, and other services to help kids overcome the outdated views of less than capable parents (or even the well meaning but poorly informed ones).
Ford matters because ...

1. He is the one scraping this Liberal policy.
2. He actually made a campaign promise to scrap this Liberal policy.

That is democracy. When the Liberals are in power, they push their policies onto the public, including stretch goals. When the conservatives are in power, they will push policies onto the public. Here, they do not have to push very hard at all, the public wanted this, as seeing the Liberals being decimated at the polls.

Lets stop beating around the bush. If you hate Ford and conservatives in general, just say it. Just be direct about it. No point on picking this topic of sex education.

Sex education is a topic where people will have strong opinions. However, sex ed is not a deal breaker for 95% of the population.

I really dislike Wynne. I am glad she is gone. She should be in jail as far as I am concerned. Too bad no such thing as dereliction of duty for some like her in the laws of this province. Ford should investigate her and throw her ass in jail. But he's soft that way. His brother was better. Rob Ford would wipe out his political opponents. Doug Ford is too nice.

I still don't know what a stretch goal is.

Why do right wingers always sound like they're pining for a police state where you can disappear your enemies?

You're in a full blown McCarthyism mode in your politics!

But I think you are better than McCarthy. At least he had some hearing. You would skip that, and exile Trump to Siberia on the next flight out to Mother Russia.

Am I the one calling for Wynne to be jailed for unspecified crimes?
For Trump there are clear charges, evidence and an ongoing investigation with multiple arrests and guilty pleas.

Can you provide some examples of where Ford has exhibited homophobic behaviors as premier? Changing a curriculum is not an example. I am looking for examples such as "we need to wipe out homosexuality" or "death to all fags". Something concrete.
Can you show pictures of him marching at Pride? He's been a politician in this town for years, but still no appearance at Pride. The objection to the sex ed curriculum is clearly motivated by homophobia, whether based in religion or just good old macho redneckism, and Ford quickly scrapped it. No consultations with the various parties in favour of the curriculum at all.

He said he would attend Pride if the the police were invited. Very simple ask.
BLM doesn't want the police to be invited, Pride organizers and city hall bend to BLM's requests.
Many politicians don't attend that parade for various reasons.
And the Liberals didn't consult parents and experts when they bought in the sex ed curriculum.
Their results in this past election show that most people didn't want it. Ford campaigned on revamping it and won.

So your rage is misplaced my friend

Liberals did consult experts and parents on revision to sex ed curriculum.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opi...arios-new-sex-ed-curriculum-and-pc-party-are/

Ontario’s long-running debate about sex education re-intensified this week when the Ford government announced it is cancelling the province’s controversial 2015 curriculum and replacing it with one from 1998 that is unquestionably out of date.

Scrapping the 2015 curriculum was one of Doug Ford’s few concise election promises, one that suited the simplistic sloganeering that characterized his startling rise from political afterthought to Progressive Conservative leadership candidate to Premier.

It was not a promise steeped in any sort of thoughtful consideration, or in the Premier’s understanding of the issue. He simply adopted the argument, made by religious groups and socially conservative family organizations, that parents hadn’t been properly consulted about the new curriculum.

In doing so, he ignored the fact that the Liberal government that developed the 2015 version of the curriculum had consulted teachers, experts and 4,000 parents of elementary school-aged children.

He also ignored the fact that the campaign against the new curriculum – a campaign that actually began in 2010 when the updated curriculum was first introduced, and then quickly withdrawn, by the Liberal government of Dalton McGuinty – was filled with malice and misinformation so virulent that a Russian troll farm would have been impressed.

Opponents shamelessly claimed the curriculum was designed to “groom” children for pedophiles, and that it was the work of a “lesbian-activist,” a reference to Kathleen Wynne, the former premier who was education minister from 2006 to 2010, and who brought the curriculum back in 2015.

Opponents also said it encouraged children to masturbate, confused them into questioning their gender identity and “normalized” homosexuality. They said the mere presence of the words “anal sex” was evidence of a “gay agenda.”

None of these things was remotely true. The 2015 sex-ed curriculum for students in Grades 1 to 8 was, in fact, a neutral and timely document.

As a small part of a much larger curriculum on health and physical education, it gave elementary and middle-school students sound introductions to numerous issues: sexual abuse and sexually transmitted diseases; managing their time on the internet; the dangers of sugary sodas and physical inactivity, and much more.

In its approach to sexuality, it slowly introduced children to the inevitable facts of life, which today include a greater openness to sexual diversity. Children were made aware in neutral terms that sexual orientation was one of a number of ways another person might be different from them.

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/karyn-pickles/ontario-sex-education-curriculum-update_b_6746012.html

this curriculum is being implemented by the Ontario Ministry of Education, a Ministry of the democratically elected Government of Ontario; and b) the process of creating this curriculum included consultation with 4,000 chairs of parent councils (i.e. parents who were democratically elected to chair parent councils in each of 4,000 schools across Ontario).

Let's keep the Trudeau vs. Ford comparisons to the appropriate thread(s) okay?

Per your marijuana concerns I agree with you. I think we have rushed into this whole legalization process don't you? For instance, how are we going to measure marijuana in people that are suspected to be driving under the influence? I also share your concerns with "street weed", however that business will never go away. The new rules around legalization also state that people will be allowed to grow up to four plants. How is quality and/or mold issues going to be addressed with that?

Question - Are you content with legalizing marijuana or do you think it should be delayed until all governments and society in general is ready to have it legalized?

You are confusing yourself with sex ed and bullying. Kids have taught themselves and will continue to do so. The basics on sex ed will not change as it covers the reproductive process. As kids grow and develop they are aware of homosexuality and transgenderism and it becomes part of their normal (my dad would not have understood what I was taught in school, just as our generation will be concerned). But kids learn way more on the playground, television, internet and from siblings as this is reality and not a text book version of things.

Bullying is a completely separate topic. It has been around since man had someone to pick on and it will never go away. When I was young the typical kids that were bullied were fat kids, ugly kids, poor kids, stupid kids and kids from different ethnic backgrounds. In today's world that group now includes kids who are gay or transgendered. You mention that suicides are way up, even though our educational system has supposedly implemented zero tolerance bullying programs. Why is that? It is because human behavior in kids will not change. We are who we are. I understand your angst (and maybe you were bullied as a youngster), but basic human behaviors will not change. Parents who feel their child is being bullied or segregated due to their beliefs are responsible for taking control of the situation and managing it. The school system is not.

Again, think back to when you were a kid. The environment has changed, but kid behaviors are still the same.
Legalisation of Medical Marijuana that also has health benefits was on the Liberal Government platform. It has been almost three years since they have been elected and sufficient time to start what preparedness was required to set everything in place. We cannot expect the Federal Government to do everything for society at ground levels as you are insinuating.

Well in the 50's, and even 60's homosexuality was a taboo subject. There were very violent attacks on such individuals that were discovered to be gay. We as a society did have to change that attitude starting in schools and hence the school curriculums were gradually altered to embrace such individuals including transgenders and even same sex marriages etc. What exactly was wrong with the sex ed curriculum that it needed to be scrapped? Let us know precisely what you disagreed with. We know that Ford has not given any reasons for doing so.

Beaver - I do not disagree with any of the new sex ed curriculum. I think it is a poor decision to revert to the old curriculum because it was in dire need of an update. I am in favor of tweaking the new curriculum where and when needed as any new program would need to be tweaked.

But back to my original question to you - Do you think that we are ready for the full implementation of legal recreational marijuana (not medicinal)? I want to have it legalized, but I feel we are not ready mainly due to issues such as how to measure marijuana impairment, how to distribute it and the rules around personal cultivation.

Wigglee - I asked you a question and you completely deflected it away. However, in the spirit of your request I will provide you with my answer to your question and I hope you answer mine. There are no pictures of Ford at Pride. I think he should have attended and taken the opportunity to promote the police agenda. I think it would have been hilarious if he showed up with some police officers dressed up in pride costumes.

Now can you answer my question without deflecting the topic - Can you provide examples of where Ford has exhibited homophobic behaviors as premier? Again, I am looking for clear-cut examples such as "We need to eliminate homosexuality as it is a disease" or "death to all fags".

Says the guy who is trying to make this about mindless partisan politics rather than discussing how stupid a decision it is to set sex-ed back a couple decades.

Ford has been a Toronto politician and mayoral candidate for years, yet you only account for this year's absence? Nice try.....and who did Ford consult with when he cancelled the new curriculum or for that matter, the badly needed school repairs?

Ford may be an idiot, but he's not quite stupid enough to say what you have asked me to quote.
