Ever since the Fenian Raids Canada has been a key ally with the United Sates and now the US President says we are the problem, insults our Prime Minister (who I don't even support) and accuses us of all sorts of things which are not even true. "Sticks and Stones" but now he has started a trade war which will hurt Canadians and eventually Americans too. If that is the way its to be I, for one will not rail against Trump as a fool without doing what I can to send a message.

1. As of today I will not buy US goods wherever possible.
California wines, bourbon, orange juice gone. I can buy Ontario wines, Canadian whiskey and apple juice, no problem. I am sure there are other things too. I just have to check every purchase. If lots of us do this sort of thing it has to eventually hit home in the US.

2. I will make a point of telling the merchant that I am buying a certain product and deliberately not buying the US product.

3. I will suggest the sales clerk pass the information on up the food chain so that the purchasers in head office will hopefully withhold their orders for US product.

4. I will not travel to the US for any reason, least of all to vacation. Why would any Canadian spend their vacation time in a country where the leader thinks we are either chumps or that we are taking unfair advantage of them? Not to mention our dollar is only worth about 75 cents US.

5. Wouldn't it be great of the LCBO pulled all US wines off the shelves and shipped it all back where it came from? Trump needs to learn Canada, not North Korea or Russia, are his true partners and have been for over 100 years ( the Fenians invaded us, but to Trump that is fake history).

There is no shortage of Canadians who despise, belittle, slander, mock and laugh at the US President. But what do we do about it? Talk is cheap!

Anyone who is not prepared to do something personally, however small, to send a message to Trump, is not entitled to whine or complain about what he is or what he does to us.

Time to act!!!

I have a friend that drinks Jack Daniels when she is at my place and I like to be a good host. The current bottle is almost empty, but when I was at the LCBO yesterday I inquired what was a non-US alternative to JD. They did not know of an alternative. So I have not bought anything yet.

Can anyone suggest a GOOD alternative to JD ? It is not CC.

I refuse to punish the 80% of Americans who DID NOT vote Trump in 2016. Hopefully America as whole makes a better choice this Fall, and again in two years. If not, only then would I consider taking action.

To each their own. Many Canadians work for smaller branches of larger companies head quartered in the USA and earn a good living. Our largest trading partner is the USA and the whenever I have been down in the USA I have been treated with respect.

Trump, Obama, Bush...It really does not matter who the President is as it is the people who matter.

What concerns me is that the main stream media is forcing the populations of both countries to take a side, and in turn these parties are moving more and more away from each other. I prefer the middle where sanity tends to reside.

Hopefully NA will wake up and kick our media in the ass and tell them to fuck off!

I've been looking for a good one as well, apparently there are some in the pipe, but with a 10 year aging period its taking some time for the rise in boutique distillers to get the products out.
You could start with Dillon's gins, they are very tasty.

Isn't his question a bit like asking for a Scotch that isn't made in Scotland? Corn whiskey and rye whisky are never going to be substitutes for each other. Anyway, once you're onto gins, do try Ungava from Quebec and Georgian Bay from, … Georgian Bay.

How about just remaining calm and seeing how things play out. There is an agreement in place, and the US have violated it by imposing tariffs on our steel and aluminum. Mechanisms are in place to deal with matters such as this.

I am avoiding directing any of my money to US purchases and refuse to enter the USA on vacation while Trump is in office.
