Its a sign of how fucked up our school system is and that the few individuals who make the decisions at a particular school can do what they please. I think its a school thing and not a school board direction however I have no interest in pursuing this any further with the school or asking questions, its just annoying that they have this double standard because someone perceived that it would be a negative or cause issue for kids without fathers. Maybe there is more here to dig deeper as to why the school thought this was a good idea and where the actual direction or inception originated. However this is like winning the battle but losing the war argument. No positive will come out of this trying to actually make them change and do what is ultimately fair. This thread is strong evidence of public interest in this type of story; when (so-called) PC-culture clashes with equality or fairness and creates hypocrisy... TERB thrives on it.
I strongly believe if this happened exactly as-described, or happened en masse (school, board or province-wide) that the Toronto Sun or some other newspaper would be blowing this up. This kind of story is like smack for Sun readers.
So-far, we have heard a child’s explanation for why dad didn’t get a Father’s Day craft second-hand. I have no reason to disbelieve the OP or his son/daughter(s), but it’s a pretty provocative thread title all-things considering.
I can’t imagine I would have ever brought arts and crafts home from school once I was tall enough to use a garbage can.
I just teach my kid to learn from this and know that schools don't always do the right thing or teach you the right information. I am happy that she still made the surprise at home and during her own time and showed me in her own way even though they spent days on making something nice during school time for mothers.
I don’t know if the issue is limited only to this school, or because its a Catholic school or if its even bigger then that. It could be. This is the reason I was hoping to see if anyone else had this issue on here.
I have no political motivation in this. I believe that all religion, politics, race, culture is a form of control anyways that takes away from our humanity, kills our spirit, limits our growth and potential, divides and segregates us and keeps us from the truth in our life.
So then why is my kid in Catholic school...I am hoping that by being exposed to religion and this type of control she will see herself the truth and make her own decisions. Only you have the ability to free yourself and nobody else will do it for you.
