So kids can’t celebrate Fathers Day anymore in schools?

This thread is strong evidence of public interest in this type of story; when (so-called) PC-culture clashes with equality or fairness and creates hypocrisy... TERB thrives on it.

I strongly believe if this happened exactly as-described, or happened en masse (school, board or province-wide) that the Toronto Sun or some other newspaper would be blowing this up. This kind of story is like smack for Sun readers.

So-far, we have heard a child’s explanation for why dad didn’t get a Father’s Day craft second-hand. I have no reason to disbelieve the OP or his son/daughter(s), but it’s a pretty provocative thread title all-things considering.

I can’t imagine I would have ever brought arts and crafts home from school once I was tall enough to use a garbage can.
Its a sign of how fucked up our school system is and that the few individuals who make the decisions at a particular school can do what they please. I think its a school thing and not a school board direction however I have no interest in pursuing this any further with the school or asking questions, its just annoying that they have this double standard because someone perceived that it would be a negative or cause issue for kids without fathers. Maybe there is more here to dig deeper as to why the school thought this was a good idea and where the actual direction or inception originated. However this is like winning the battle but losing the war argument. No positive will come out of this trying to actually make them change and do what is ultimately fair.

I just teach my kid to learn from this and know that schools don't always do the right thing or teach you the right information. I am happy that she still made the surprise at home and during her own time and showed me in her own way even though they spent days on making something nice during school time for mothers.

I don’t know if the issue is limited only to this school, or because its a Catholic school or if its even bigger then that. It could be. This is the reason I was hoping to see if anyone else had this issue on here.

I have no political motivation in this. I believe that all religion, politics, race, culture is a form of control anyways that takes away from our humanity, kills our spirit, limits our growth and potential, divides and segregates us and keeps us from the truth in our life.

So then why is my kid in Catholic school...I am hoping that by being exposed to religion and this type of control she will see herself the truth and make her own decisions. Only you have the ability to free yourself and nobody else will do it for you.

This does indeed seem very fucked up. Are you as surprised as I am that no other parent went public with this? Get in-touch with The Sun: http://torontosun.com/contact-us

With Trustee elections in the Fall (I think), this is Definitely something the people will benefit from hearing.

Did you end up talking to the teacher or principal? As a parent, I’m sure they’ll explain the shift in policy.

Did they change the subject of Friday mass as well?

I feel bad for Danney Williams. He's Bill Clinton's bastard son that Bill won't even acknowledge. Danney still wishes his dad a Happy Father's Day each year, anyway.

I think you are inventing excuses for the inexcusable. When is it a good thing not to honour the good fathers out there the same way that we honour the mothers?

Kids should do arts and crafts, not making gifts for Mom and Dads. Too many mixed families of non traditional mother and father roles so just be done with the whole thing.

If you really need a homemade card, get your spouse, or own family to take the kids out to make one for you.

The OP and a lot of this thread is intended to trigger alt-right and Neo-con warriors. It is the sort of thing that the Sun, Rebel Media, Breitbart etc thrive on...trigger, trigger, trigger and it is how they make their money... manipulating the moral outrage and anger among a minority of the population. What a waste of time and mental energy.

This ^^^^

If schools are going to pick and choose they should consider the ultimate and be fair to everyone especially with all the different family arrangements in our society. I agree with that.

Whats wrong with identifying problems at their root and trying to gather ideas and ways to improve the system.

I believe religion, culture, race, groups, politics, etc...are the root of all our problems.

Why not live on the principles of love for humanity and your self. Give more then you take from the earth and others. IMO everything else disguised as religion, politics, these social groups, race culture etc... is a form of control and far from the absolute truth.

I believe Jessica Rain has the right attitude. Plus others have came up with good ideas how to deal with this issue. i.e. if kids don't have a father just make it for the other parent or caregiver.

However in todays society are events like mothers day and fathers day really the root in the absolute sense that teaches us about division and create these feelings that teach our little ones that one group is better or different then others.

I think the absolute problem is much deeper, however we are slowly waking up to these issues that take away from our humanity and equality.

Had a great Father’s Day weekend, took the family to an FC Cincinnati game (have season tickets, they won 4:0) and a bbq on Sunday, kids made their presents and cards.

The guy who knocked up my ex was starting to look like he was going to bail on the entire situation. Not my problem but I called him, invited him out for a beer and told him being a father was likely the only really meaningful thing he was ever going to do, that prison is full of kids who’s dad bailed and that he should man the fuck up. Turned into a good conversation.

He’s done a great job, I may have had no impact, he may have done the right thing in any case but, but I couldn’t live with myself had I not said something.

He was smart enough to get away from my ex, and at a fraction of what I paid to get rid of that crazy bitch.
Lord Butthurt, Cincinnati won't have an MLS team until next year.

Where exactly are you from? First you say Ohio, then NJ, next who the fuck knows. Nice story but I'm not buying it, with your barely suppressed hatred it doesn't add up. The only part that's believable is the "crazy bitch".

You're full of contradictions, like your sig pic. You must have never read Victor Hugo, he was the most liberal of writers. Even going into exile for opposing the dictatorship of the deplorable Napoleon III.

Since you're so anti-Canadian, I don't believe you've ever been to Toronto. Name the dive bar once located on the north corner across from the Ontario College of Arts?

Actually i think a move away from mothers and fsthers day is adding humanity and equality. Especially with the increase in alternate configurations of families.

I think the other person was right that this is the type of clickbait topic meant to trigger outrage.

Sorry rain.... i reread your post. I think we are in agreement. My mistake

I have a problem with Mother's/Father's Day and most of all Valentine's Day. What's wrong with every other day of the year to respect your parents and express your love for your SO? Valentine's Day is the most egregious since most people don't know who St Valentinus is. He was a Christian martyr who preached love as the key to salvation. Emperor Claudius II didn't buy it, he believed that his soldiers fought harder as single men, so he had him beheaded.

As for the corner of McCaul and Dundas, it's had an upgrade. I used to enjoy drinking there when it was the dive bar known as The Frog and Peach. It has now been turned into a gastropub known as The Village Idiot.

In a place far, far away
No fathers around as brother from another mother; not surprising in the Jane and Finch area/ predominantly black areas.

I’ve lived in Short Hills NJ (where I lived when I joined TERB) now live in Dayton OH. FCC had 28,000 attendance at the last game, won 4:0. It’s a USL sensation which is how they earned the 4th MLS slot. They’ll play one more season in Nippert while they build a new stadium on the west side of Cincy (not far from OTR).

I’ve traveled to YYz and Montreal for more than 15 years, C level bankers at TD, Scotia, Desjardan (my favorite French communist credit union), BMO and CIBC (never really worked with RBC). Didn’t do dive bars.

Don’t give a shit what you “buy”
