Sweet! Even though they aren't made by BB anymore, long live the BB phone!

BlackBerry uses Android software and no longer supports much of their past BB10 software. They are a company with ultra poor customer support and huge lost potential. It is very risky to purchase a BlackBerry device going forward.

Blackberry is now a software / security company.

Their current CEO John Chen has correctly figured out that there are just too many guys making smart phones out there and it was time to reinvent themselves. They seem to be doing better and better with their new business model.

I have an Apple iphone for personal use and an android phone for work. I've had a lot of problems with my apple, mainly with the phone not being very well built.

My first smart phone was a Blackberry 9000 followed by a Blackberry Bold. I can honestly say that (for their time) they were outstanding. Even my current Android is not as good at the old bold was for email, phone, contacts, calendar. In addition, I did love that physical keyboard. I could write a novel with that thing.

I've been using the virtual keyboard for years and still like the physical keyboard better, except for one crucial thing - screen size for photos. I'd have to look at the new BB phones with the physical keyboard to see if it could work or not.

I've probably owned 4 or 5 different BlackBerry's over the years, my last being the Z30 which was a very good phone. It was the full touchscreen version and larger than the iPhone 5 at the time. It did everything well and met my needs at the time. The tipping point was when there was no banking app available, along with a few others I wanted/needed.

That's when I switched to the iPhone 7 Plus. Oddly enough, I found the iPhone very BlackBerry like, in that it was easy to navigate and like the BlackBerry, did everything well, only much, much better.

I know my friends who have Androids like them because you can customize everything, but for me, that's just not necessary. Sticking with iPhone for the foreseeable future.

I may switch to this in a few years.
Android and a keyboard is a winning combo for me.

Plus security. Security is and will be a bigger issue going forward.

I was under the impression he had pulled BlackBerry out of the physical device/handset market altogether?

What till the phone has a problem out of warranty, if you in fact still even have it and see how BlackBerry does a disappearing act on you.
Speaking from experience, Apple does not give a fuck once your phone is out of warranty and will tell you to just buy a new one.

No, just subcontracted out development and production to some Chinese outfit.

BlackBerry just gets a cut on sales.

What does this mean? What manufacturer would do a repair/replacement out of warranty? and why would you expect them to? If something fails and you're out of warranty then you're probably getting close to the end of your term anyway (assuming you didn't buy it outright) so might as well get a new one.

If it's a broken screen or worn out battery there are lots of shops that will do that for reasonable rates. I've done a few display and a battery replacement on apple products and replaced worn out USB ports on a couple of my devices but from now on I'll just take it in to a shop.

I still have my original BB and Iphone. One day they will be hard-to-find collectible items.

I currently have a BlackBerry PRIV for the last 2.5 years, but sadly in the last few months it has slowed down and the battery life is getting poorer, despite the android operating system. I love the slide out physical keyboard though, and I'm so reluctant to get out of the BlackBerrys because of the keyboard alone. I'm going to have a tough time transitioning out of it I think.
Does anyone know if the Key 2 is a slide out.
Also, does anyone know how I can "clean up" my PRIV to make it faster or is that irrelevant in the sense that once it gets to a certain age it is inevitable to go downhill? These phones are like mini computers after all.

You could empty the memory cache on the Priv to speed up the processor. If the battery life is getting poorer then it is not worth it to replace the battery. Cell phones are not made to be durable. Profits for manufacturers and telecoms are driven by sales and contracts. Even if the cell phone is durable and lasts many years, upgrades and support are removed forcing one to get a new phone anyway. It is all calculated by actuaries for maximum profit and Blackberry is now bare bones operation that takes no prisoners.

Don't knock it til you tried it.

I've had BB devices since 2001. I've tried other types over the years.

This is the best one yet. The physical keyboard let's me do my emails as fast as I did back in the day. I just can't use a touch screen.

And the Android OS is awesome. Great battery, reception, apps.

Hands down the best yet.

I had the original B.B. in pager format, then the large format version before and after it became a phone.

They revolutionized mobile email, the rest was Meh IMHO.

Palm improved the PIM aspects and then Apple reinvented the space we are in today.
