Here
With the BJ's now on life support and the first game less than 2 weeks away, time to begin prognosticating...

How many aficionados here?

Who will make it to the knockout rounds?

Who will be the next World Cup Champion? :first:

Perry, for obvious reasons I have no interest in this World Cup. I've even relinquished the running of the World Cup pool for the first time this century!

Canada has a strong crop of youngsters cumming up, they beat Turkey in the Toulon Tournament. With half the National being born after 1999, they should have no problem qualifying for the Olympics. John Herdman came in at the right time.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and enjoy the jogo bonito for what it is!

But a Brazil-Italy final would have been nice! :yo:

The groups are:
Group A: Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, Egypt.
Group B: Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Iran
Group C: France, Australia, Peru, Denmark.
Group D: Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Serbia.
Group F: Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea
Group G: Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England
Group H: Poland, Senegal, Colombia, Japan

Likely qualifiers are:

Group A: Russia, Uruguay.
Group B: Portugal, Spain.
Group C: France, Peru or Denmark.
Group D: Argentina, Croatia, but this is probably the most unpredictable grouping.
Group E: Brazil, Switzerland.
Group F: Germany, Mexico.
Group G: Belgium, England.
Group H: Poland, Colombia.

In recent times a South American team has failed to win the World Cup. I predict Spain v either Brazil or Argentina in the Finals depending on the draw.

Brazil best player is named Jesus.

Germany is defending.

England has an outside shot. It would be nice to see them go deep

One thing that puzzles me is how games are so close yet the favorites always seem to win

I realize one tactic is to play defensive and slow game down so there is less scoring. I would like to see more scoring . Not unusual to have only a few shots directly on net in a whole game.

WTF happened to Italy?

Filippo that's a ho hum bet, you're not going to get much of a return. I placed $400 on Poland getting to the quarters, anything beyond and I get $$$$.

Their goaltenders, whomever starts are all Serie A developed. They have the top rated defender (imho) in Kemal Glik, their midfield is young and strong and they have Lewandowski and Milik up front. The later is fresh and wants to prove to new Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti that he deserves to start again for Napoli. And he's still only 24.

Poland will most likely have to play Belgium or England in R16, and they'll be the underdogs then

There's another variable you haven't considered Fillipo. The Poles want to flip the bird to the Russians.

Inter is loading up for the CL, Stefan De Vrij has been signed.
