France and Russia.
Russia will be in tough in the round of 16. If they lead Gr.A,they will meet either Portugal or Spain. Theri side of the bracket looks pretty tough compared to the other side. Russia would have to beat up on the likes of France,Brazil and Belgium or even England to go to the Finals.

I think everybody is cheering for Iceland.
Iceland is a complete mystery. Population of less than 400,000 plus most of the players hold regular day jobs and are NOT professional soccer players!!!

How do you explain the likes of Argentina playing down to their competition?

Messi's legacy as an international player in the World Cup will be nothing to write home about if he does not do anything in this tourney. He's not been himself. Don't know what it is.

Is anyone else having the same problem I am having?

Can't anyone on the post game show speak with a clear Canadian intonation? I am having a great deal of difficulty following what they are saying... especially when they pump it up to 150 m.p.h.!

Great commentary when I get to understand it, but...

Hahahaha! I cannot watch British movies without closed caption.

I have always had a chuckle that on Canadian TV we need to have someone with a British accent talking football. As far as I am concerned they could have some drunken British guy rambling on about anything and he would be a star on Canadian TV.

I am. It is nice to see some upsets as it makes it more exciting. Mind you, those teams that are traditionally strong still have a couple of games left to make up for their first game showing.

Azza matta for u guys (hand gestures), I'm Italian born yet have no problem understanding British accents. Some of my favorite shows are from the UK, most notably I Claudius and my current fave C.B Strike.

The WC are super competitive this tourney. If Neymar can't go for Brazil, it'll be wide open.

P.S.

As a matter "of record," even though I have an excellent audio system/speakers, using my headphones and cranking up the volume has helped tremendously...

BTW, subtitles are not useful because I don't listen to the match, I turn off the sound -- even listen to soft classical music!

My problem is only with the commentary from TSN, which I enjoy, but with which I have no option...

And though I am cheering for Iceland, my favorite dark horse is Mexico. If they can keep up that speed they will be hard to beat. For me, a Mexico/Iceland final would be a fabulous thrill!

I have no problem understanding them but then again I used to live and work in the UK and still go there often, there are much worse accents... and they call it English lol

What I can't stand is KJ ... Kristan Jack ... he does his research but you can tell when other people are giving their opinion that he just wants to jump in every time, look at his clenching hands and the faces of his colleagues, there are little signs here and there. Best is when he makes a prediction that goes wrong.

Anyways enjoy the beautiful game everyone!!!

Nigel Reid is now with CBC, TSN could have used him for this WC, he and Craig Forrest would have made a great team.

The best thing, absolutely the best thing about the World Cup every time is how easy it is to spot the flag in your car in any parking lot!

The top scorer in the world cup is OwnGoal, of course he plays on many teams.

Spain got lucky that was not an offside when the Iranian scored, as a hand ball it was correct.

Argentina will lose to Croatia on Thursday.

I was not "suitably" impressed by the performances of Portugal, Uruguay or Spain today.

All three looked quite vulnerable... I expect to see a few more upsets before this is all over.

OTOH, some teams play just well enough to make it out of their group and preserve their energy and strategies for the knockout rounds.

But, in the end, that increases the tension and my interest in the tournament...

I agree with you, I thought Spain was going to kill Iran and Portugal barely made it thru. I feel bad for Morocco they played good even against Iran but that autogoal did it.

The best game tomorrow should be Argentina against the Croats.

A few days ago Mexico beat Germany 1-0. It was the most exciting soccer game I ever watched. Not that I watched a lot of games but wow that game had me riveted to the end.

This definitely is going to be a good game today, I think Argentina is going to win, but it may be a stunner.
