Really? Figure skaters seem to be able to execute dozens of jumps in practice with their arms tucked across their chests until the the moment they land. It's just a matter of making it a priority, teaching that technique and reinforcing it in every practice at every stage of organized soccer.

I would agree though that the roll-out was somewhat unreasonable and unfair to players in general. Going to a zero-tolerance enforcement overnight after an eternity of loose and inconsistent interpretations put everyone off balance.

That's why insisting on a certain form and technique is better, it gets the officials off the hook for guessing intent and instead allows them to make a call based on an observable fact.

If you rule that the legal way to challenge for a ball in the air is with the arms at your side or held against your chest, otherwise any contact with the ball or another player will automatically be a foul, intentional or otherwise.

It's like in hockey when two players are about to cross paths in the neutral zone, one guy sticks out his elbow or forearm a half second before and knocks the other guy out, he can't say "well I put my elbow up before his head got there" . No, the mere fact the elbow was out for whatever reason is sufficient for major penalty. The only legal way to make a hit is with the hands on the stick at waist level, or stick on the ice in one hand and the other tucked in against the torso.

And how was Russia for everything else?? I heard they've become very industrialized since Perestroika in 1990.
Were the stores all modern?? Did you go to any malls or plazas??
What about restaurants...etc.

I've been to Russia before but around the facilities in the cities it was like there was a face lift in other parts you just don't want to stop and visit. Malls, restaurants etc were geared towards the many tourists coming into the venues to see the games, there was a lot of planning involved behind this for you to see this particular face of Russia... it's like other WC were they build and then abandon ... for example there was this new pub geared towards the English fans that they flocked to and was always packed, how long is that going to last now? Probably going to be repurposed like many other establishments. Another note is that there were many guides around to help you but if you wandered off the police were always close by, a good thing due to many thieves trying to take advantage.

Sorry but I don't post pics, I prefer to keep this part of my life separate, so sharing details that someone could connect the dots isn't my thing.

It seems Inter can't get enough Croatians, they're getting ready to sign fullback Sime Vrasljko from Atletico Madrid. They already have Peresic, Brozovic and the grossly underrated Slovenian goalkeeper Handanovic.

Liverpool is going to sign Alisson from Roma, Handanovic is superior.

No worries, I understand.

Russia has come a long way though since 1990 (from what I hear). Back in the heydays it was very common for stores to run out of goods, and you'd have long lineups for people who just wanted to buy bread and eggs for example.

Never a shortage of vodka though

No problem.

Russia gets a bad rap most times but let me say that they have very beautiful cities and people. Also given their size spanning several time zones you can go from one extreme to another. My friend was born there and his parents emigrated here so he tells me lots of stories and his parents too, been exposed since my childhood to Russian... some are good but others you have to watch out for.
