Are you having a hard look at your management team and your superstar's fat contracts and thinking you are severely over paying as you watch the VGK 3 wins away from a Stanley Cup with a group of 3rd liners?

It's not that simple. Most teams made up of 3rd. liners don't even make the playoffs. Vegas also has Fleury, who had a .947 SV% going into last night's game. It's not like past Cup champions like the Pens, Kings, Hawks etc. didn't have their fair share of highly paid superstars.

Teams aren't likely make radical changes based on the success of VGK.

The situation reminds a lot of Moneyball. Vegas might be Billy Beane's Oakland A's of the NHL.

If I was an owner, it means that I would be worth so much that I shouldn't care a ton how they perform.

I wouldn't exactly call VGK a group of 3rd liners. Neal was a top 6 fwd in Nashville. Perron was top 6 in StL. Karlsson, Marchessault and R Smith are playing like elite forwards. Their chemistry is astounding. Fleury is still an elite goalie in this league. What a great story.

I would make the team all inclusive, unlike the Canadiens. They could tolerate having any blacks on the team - what did they get for Devonte Smith-Pelly?

are you aware how the process works?
each team can only protect 8 players
that means that LV is made up of at least all second line guys.
they are extremely deep in talent, and over the year some of those second line guys have become first line guys.
So imagine playing against them
you put your first line out, they counter with their best line (which is made up of all 2nd line guys most of which have become first line players
you put your second line out, they counter with second line guys
you put your third line out, they counter with second line guys
and that also goes for defense, not to mention the 3 time Stanley cup winner in between the pipes
usually in a season with expansion team there are two teams to share the pics, in LV case they had all the picks because they were the only team, and that is why they are as good as they are

VGK may look like a bunch of 3rd liners, but in reality, they are a bunch of 2nd liners who were pushed to 3rd lines or out the roster based on deeper talents from other teams...This is a deep team with a lot of grit and ok talents...and sometimes it's better.

You make a great point but to answer the OP question, I would definitely be looking at mgt and evalution system. Too many players on Vegas slipped thru a lot of cracks.

Dumbass.

Why did the ducks trade him for a guy who is out of the league?

Why didn’t the devils keep him?

Why did 30 teams pass him over for under a million.
