lmao I'm done dude. get a life. you have to much time on your hands. This is not school and we are not in English class. I was not using the term "paki" in a racial way - I was using it as a short form for "Pakistani" while I was describing who ate at the restaurant which is mainly Asian/ Pakistani people.

Maybe “methinks” is just new to you? It’s from Hamlet, one of the most famous plays by all time. Shakespeare wrote it.

Well, Oxford, Cambridge and Merriam-Webster, bad comedians and you will just have to agree to disagree on that one, methinks.

—-

Can you recommend a specific “resourceful” source you want me to look at in your Google URL? The Google dictionary says it’s a “noun,” “British,” it’s “informal” and “offensive.”

It also says it’s defined as “a person from Pakistan or South Asia by birth or descent, especially one living in Britain.“

Here are the 3 sources that support the Wikipedia quote I posted:

Taylor, Matthew; Gillan, Audrey (13 January 2009). "Racist slur or army banter? What the soldiers say about Prince Harry's comments" – via www.theguardian.com.

"the definition of Paki". Dictionary.com.

"After the N-word, the P-word". 11 June 2007 – via news.bbc.co.uk.

Here’s a more recent fourth article from Canada:

Farah Nasser: My first experience with racism. 29 March 2018 - via globalnews.ca.

again you & smallestcock have been on my ass since I joined - please move along ! I am not here for an English class and neither is anyone else.

And again according to proper English language it is " I THINK" not "me thinks" . I will not argue this any further . BTW -you always agree with smallcock when it comes to me - don't try to act like this is the first time you've run to his defence when you seen us arguing about pointless bullshit that he creates.
I don't recall him ever coming to my defense. He and I couldn't be further apart on almost every topic.

Methinks you're acting like a stereotypical millennial.

We know it was a minor misunderstanding and that your use of the "P" word was not meant to be racial. Surprised you used it though considering its meaning in Canada. Is it used in a benign manner among millennials often?

do you hear how stupid you sound? Are we five years old ? who says "me thinks" and thinks they are grammatically correct? It is " I THINK " according to proper English language. Can the term "paki" be racist- YES , did I mean it in that context ? NO . I simply said it is a Pakistani / indian style restaurant where "paki" short form for PAKISTANIS go to eat. Now stop trying to make me the topic of this thread and get back to what really matters here. Those poor people were eating and a bomb went off , stop trying to give me an English lesson.
Me thinks is old English.....

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks" is a line from the c. 1600 play Hamlet by William Shakespeare

Like it or not.... Paki is a racist term. You may not have meant it that way but a reader has no way of knowing.

Doesn't matter how you use it. It is well known to be racist. If you didn't know that then learn from the comments of others and modify your speech. If you choose to continue using it know that people will assume you are racist (whether you mean it or not).

"Paki acquired offensive connotations in the 1960s when used by British tabloids to refer to subjects of former colony states in a derogatory and racist manner. In modern British usage "Paki" is typically a derogatory label referring to South Asians beyond Pakistan, including those from India, Afghanistan and elsewhere."

If you don't like Wikipedia how about dictionary.com

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/paki

Or the merriam Webster dictionary?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Paki

Come on...

Yes...technically it is indeed a racist term; but anyone reading her post can see that is not how it was intended.

It was an honest mistake...cut her some slack. I’m sure she won’t do it again.

Comments like "I won't back down" and repeatedly trying to explain what she meant instead of just saying "whoops I didn't realize it was racist..." made me think otherwise

I'm not saying she's racist. I'm just trying to explain to her that no matter what you meant to say you are walking a minefield by choosing that word.

this is amazing ! why am I not surprised frank ? I knew it was only a matter of time before you chimed in. I already said that was not how I meant it & you can obviously tell I didn't mean it that way by the context I used it in. If you guys want to continue trying to "bash" me - go ahead. I meant it as a short form for Pakistani people - I never meant it in an offensive way. If that's how you took it - that's your mind being racist ; not me. I'm aware on google it says "british , informal , offensive" ; but ever thought it could be offensive because it is informal?? hmmmm now theres a way to look at it isn't it ? No where on the google definition does it say "RACIST" - Don't believe me? here it is

" Pak·i

/ˈpakē/

noun
Britishinformaloffensive

noun: Paki; plural noun: Pakis

a person from Pakistan or South Asia by birth or descent, especially one living in Britain.

Origin

1960s: abbreviation"

Also for the term "methinks" it is OLD English - therefore meaning not relevant to today ; if u look on google under the definition the use of the term "methinks" has slowly decreased overtime ; in 2010 it was pretty much at the bottom of the chart. Again - don't believe me - go look on google for yourself. The correct term THESE days is " I think " or " it seems to me" . If you are still living in Shakespeare time - well that is entirely up to you. But I will not be made to look stupid or racist when I am neither of those things.

Back to thread—who did it,why was it done and have seen people been caught yet

I'm not taking the " L" on this one as I never take a loss I dont deserve. Ive posted the definition above - no where on it does it say racist ! If it does ive asked for it to be pointed it out to me and everyone has failed to do that. I already said it was not meant in that context. Stop openly hating on millennials when we are fixing all the problems that your generation created. We are not all the same so stop putting us all in the same category.

As you said back to the thread - no they have not caught the guys ; they have two suspects photos with their faces covered; not much to go off of right now.

You think I give a rats ass if you think your generation is better? We have different opinions -get over it . Do you see me bashing your generation ? NO - like get over yourself. You sound like a pissed off baby boomer who didn't have his dick sucked today. it takes more than 48 hrs to investigate something like this. God your behaviour is disgusting for someone who claims to come from the best generation.

The best generation was actually the one before his that fought WWII. I’m a baby boomer too...I have far more faith in millennial s than my own generation.

The "P" word is a derogatory and racist term and is meant to mainly offend immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Bangla Desh and Sri Lanka who immigrated to the UK. However, in the context that SweetPie mentioned it, she clearly stated that it was referring to Pakistanis and NOT MEANT TO BE USED IN AN ABUSIVE CONTEXT. If you go back and look at her Post, she mentioned the "P" word and the Indians. Now if she wanted to use it in a derogatory context then the "P" word would have covered both Pakistanis and Indians. So, please cut her some slack, as she really meant well, that her Prayers and best wishes were with the victims. That means all those injured in that restaurant and thankfully all were discharged from the hospitals. So SweetiePie, please continue posting on this board and ignore all the attacks on you. By the way I have Pakistani friends and they are okay with the use of that "P" term, as long as you are not trying to be using it in a racist context.
