So why are we sending peace keeping troops to Mali?

I know some people call him a penis with ears, but I am reluctant to judge Trudeau junior off the cuff. I mean I am sure he has the troops best interests at heart, sending 200 them off to 42 degree heat in a hell hole without really having any idea what they are meant to be doing there. I would feel much more comfortable if they were personally being led by our defense minister on the ground with them.

They're meant to be keeping Islamic fundamentalist insurgents from raping, pillaging and murdering, unless I have Mali confused with some other West Africa country. Sounds like the Germans and Belgians have done their turn and now it's ours.

Maybe we should send Ms Di Manno. She can scold and hector the Boko Harum guys into submission.

200 Canadians should be the ticket. Germans and Belgians have done their turn raping , pillaging and murdering over there during their colonial days.not so sure about their peace keeping efforts. anyway I think Harjit Sajjan should go as point man to lend the mission cred.

This summer Canada is host to a UN summit on peacekeeping. So optically it would have looked bad if we didn't have any deployed. Now we can say we are deploying into the most dangerous one. Rife with Islamic and Cultural Violence. A brutal govt and security forces. Connections to drug and arms smuggling.

So basically the worst shithole with 169 peacekeeper deaths so far.

Once Canadian hearses start rolling down the Highway of Hero's again, Trudeau will pay for placing Canadian lives in jeopardy for optics.

Mali is a nightmare. It should just be contained for now and let the factions fight it out.

Seems a poor choice.

Likewise if the mission is providing medical evacuations and logistical support in that order, than two Chinook helicopters are not a particularly good fit for CSAR, although a better fit if the priorities are reversed. Nor are four Griffons for force protection anything like four Apache helicopters.
