Then hair doo opened his mouth:

@JustinTrudeau To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada

Back in the cold month of February 2013, there was a lot of backslapping on city council as Toronto proudly declared itself to be Canada’s first Sanctuary City.

The vote was 37-3, so it wasn’t even close and therefore impossible to simply blame it on the lefties, the council’s dominant tribe.

But that was before Donald Trump, of course, and two years before the world reacted in horror at the image of the tiny body of a dark-haired Syrian toddler named Alan Kurdi washed up on a beach.

So, declaring Toronto a Sanctuary City was easy at the time.
No one saw the perfect storm that was about to brew or the desperation that was about to be unleashed by a single tweet.

Five years later, however, the oft-cited but unfollowed advice of being careful what you wish for has produced such a crisis that Toronto Mayor John Tory has gone begging to the federal and provincial governments to reimburse the pillaging of his coffers through the sudden surge of asylum-seekers landing on his doorstep in need of housing and support.
Knowing who to hang for the crisis is no challenge.

When U.S. President Donald Trump first went on his tirade over illegal immigrants in his country and banned anyone from America who originated from any of seven Muslim-dominated countries, and then threatened to deport anyone in the U.S. whose welcome had run its course, Justin Trudeau saw the opportunity to replicate the message inherent in the Statue of Liberty and preach his progressiveness to a seemingly less charitable world.
For the sake of documented history, it came in the form of a now-famous tweet that went out on Jan. 28, 2017 at precisely 3:20 p.m.

“To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith,” wrote Trudeau. “Diversity is our strength. #WelcomeToCanada.”
And, with that piece of history articulated, the floodgates flew open, with desperate people doing desperate things like risking frostbite and death by crossing into Canada in the dead of a winter’s night through unmanned border points, mainly in Quebec and Manitoba.

Today it’s a steady stream of considerable magnitude and Toronto, one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse cities on the planet, is like a magnet to the majority of foreign queue-jumpers.

What the Trudeau Liberals have done in the meantime is literally walk away. Their leader created a national crisis with one braggadocio tweet and then disappeared on one foreign trip after another when the damage it caused began to pile up.

In terms of responsibility, the Trudeau Liberals have been utterly irresponsible. They opened our border, welcomed each and every refugee seeker as if none would be a burden, and then left property owners in the hardest-hit towns to foot the bill for our prime minister’s no-thought tweet.

As of this weekend, it should come as no surprise that there are 2,683 refugee claimants in Toronto’s shelter system and taking up 40.8% of all the available beds. By November, when the summer refugee rush ebbs, the city is projecting 4,485 refugee claimants taking up 53.6% of the system.

It’s so critical, in fact, that customs agents are being pulled from major airports to deal with the influx at illegal border crossings in Quebec.

This is not just one city’s problem, therefore. It’s a national problem.

Mayor Tory, who has already spent $64.5 million of his ratepayers’ money on shelters, staff and motel rooms to temporarily house refugees, is calling on the feds and the province to come up with a reimbursement plan as well as a plan to move the next wave of asylum seekers elsewhere — to other regions, to other towns.

And who can blame him?

Sanctuary City or Suckered City?

Flip a coin. Heads you don’t win, tails you lose.

Yawn. The Toronto Sun slams the Liberals. The Toronto Sun LIVES to slam the Grits, just like the Star LIVES to bite the Tories.

Same refugee policies, personnel and system in place under Trudeau as under Harper, Mulroney and Chretien. Nothing has changed. In fact, the # of refugee claimants DROPPED under Trudeau. We already discussed that in another thread and now you avoid mentioning it, don't' you?

Small spike in refugee applicants because Nigerians have a 45% acceptance rate here and - I am assuming - a lower acceptance rate (or none at all) in the US. You think Trudeau announcing that Canada will protect refugees changed anything??!... Uh-uh. ALL Western countries are obligated to take refugees under the UN Charter. Britain, France, Germany, Australia, the US. Trudeau changed fuck-all. The SUN is simply lying its ass off, as usual.

2,000 refugee claimants in a city of 3,000,000. Wow!!! Big crisis! Could even go up to 5,000. Wow!

If you give them work permits, they can get off welfare and get jobs.

Boy, you sure pay close attention to all those Black people and Brown people coming through the door, huh?

Apparently, being humane is against Conil's religion. There is, however a limit to our ability to be welcoming.

I fear for Canada and thank god I have other passports. It would seem that stupidity has taken over our governments. The people crossing from America do not qualify for any status. It has nothing to do with anything, nothing at all. That's why we went to all this trouble to make the international deals regarding refugees. Instead we're getting idiots pratting about compassion and taking our people for a ride. I just want to vomit when I hear this garbage.

Unless you're native then you're likely here because of refugees in your family.
