r.i.p to all the students and teachers who died in this horrific tragedy.

I know it has been said before but the U.S.A needs to change their gun laws. instead of focusing on prostitution & what crisis trump is going to create next they should be working on ways to better their country. I hope I don't offend anyone when I say TRUMP was the WORST thing to happen to USA ever!

God bless all those families and friends who have lost loved ones and please be with them in their time of need. God hear our prayer. In this we pray AMEN.

Totally agree.

The US state of mind is too crime ridden and crazy to have lax gun laws. Too many pshycotic nuts.

On the other hand, Switzerland had these laws where men had to join their militia army and every person received a gun, rifle and box of bullets. It's only supposed to be used in case their is some military emergency, but still everyone still has it. A nutcase can just break it open and go shooting with military class arms.

Yet, how often have you ever seen Swiss people go on shooting sprees? Never. At least I don't remember any. I'm sure it's happened, but it's a rare occurance. That's because Swiss people don't go ape shit.

So in a technical sense, the NRA is correct. Guns don't shoot themselves. But since Americans love this stuff and so many crazy people out there, laws are needed because of poor state of mind.

To me, Americans seem like very frightened, insecure people. Their media sells fear, fear is good for ratings, and as a result, so many Americans seem to think that if they don’t own guns, their families will be brutally raped and murdered. America paints a picture of a very bleak world. We need guns to defend our families. We need guns to stop dangerous black people. We need guns to fight tyranny. We need guns to stop bad people with guns.

It’s all the paranoid fantasy of a small, weak, scared man. You’re not going to fight a tyrannical government with your gun. They have drones, and tanks, and an airforce. You’re not going to suddenly become John McClane when a shooting breaks out. You are not a trained soldier, you might be able to hit targets at a range, but when people are running around screaming, and it’s loud and chaotic, you don’t know where the shooter is because your adrenaline is pumping, you’re panicking, and you have tunnel vision, you’re not going to be helpful. At best, you’ll freeze up, at worst, you’ll wind up probably hurting more people and making it harder for the police to do their job because there are now multiple people shooting. Shootings are scary. People the military train, break down and build back up as killing machines, come back with PTSD and all sorts of other mental health issues. You really think your average citizen is going to actually improve a situation like that by having a gun? It’s complete silliness.

Guns do need to be harder to get, but it’s more than that. They way society over there glorifies violence and fear needs to change. I think the American media as a whole is absolutely deplorable and a lot of this blood is on their hands.

But according to red neck anti-government militia, their self trained hunting rifle skills will defend against the US Army.... who some reason want to waste their time taking over farms, rural towns and trailer parks.

Bingo! The media is a big part of the problem. But not the only part of the problem, because the problem is a perfect storm of issues. Lack of gun control, a culture of fear and anger, repressed masculinity, and an increased prevalence of mental illness is colliding horrifically. A solution will not be found so long as people refuse to accept that their bastion (be it guns, the media, etc.) is at least partially responsible. All they do now is point a finger.

Harsh? No. But ill advised. We shouldn't be looking for solutions after-the-fact, but instead preventing these people from becoming monsters in the first place: gun control to limit the tools, allow boys to be boys in healthy ways, provide mental health services for those slipping through the cracks, and do something with the media so it doesn't promote an atmosphere of fear and hate. I have no idea what to do about social media though.

^^^^ Yup.

Add in that American media and society sanctifies and validates ANGER - as long as the angry person is a white male with right-wing political beliefs. "Something must be done!" "Make America Great Again"! "Clean up the Swamp"!

God forbid that a Black man, an immigrant, a woman or a leftie is angry. But a "patriotic" white All-American asshole with a grade 10 education and an AR-15 is made to feel that he is walking in the footsteps on George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

I mean, a ton of Americans have permits to carry guns on their person at all times. They keep passing laws to allow people to carry guns in places they couldn’t before. Could you imagine being such a terrified, insecure person that you feel it’s necessary to keep a deadly weapon on you when you go grocery shopping? Or to a bar? Or to church? Or just to go on a walk with your kids? This is not the mindset of a healthy person, and yet it’s incredibly common down there, even held up as an example of what a red-blooded, flag-waving American should be.

As Rhuarc said, it’s a very complex, multifaceted issue that won’t be solved until everyone is willing to come together to address it and, more importantly, make concessions. That doesn’t seem very likely, though. It seems that Americans right now are willing to tacitly accept the occasional loss of a child or loved one so long as nothing needs to change.

Damn shame and we’ve seen this many times before. In the end Americans will do nothing to change. There will be more, there always is. Fucking sad.

Good point about the Swiss, who seem to be very responsible gun owners, what some people miss when citing Switzerland is that they can store their gun at home but the ammo is strictly regulated by the army.

Italians have just as many guns, to be specific rifles, as Americans. The difference is, Italians don't equate guns with virility.

LMAO, "The NRA has grabbed Trump by the pussy".

Nothing to see here folks.... another day, another massacre in the good ole USA. I hate to say this but, to steal a phrase, the US is starting to look like a lot like a "shithole country" given recent developments.. and the infection is heading north.

Well said.

I find it insane. The amount of people there that actually believe this nonsense is astounding to me.

(I've 'interacted' with several of these nutjobs on Twitter, etc. Every single one of them always seems to have #MAGA, #NRA, and/or photos of the US flag in their bio/header.)

So when is the candle light vigil scheduled for?

And keeping the victims, "in our thoughts and prayers".

Fuck, if there was ever a cliche saying that makes me want to puke every time I hear it.
Thoughts and prayers are the only thing they're willing to do about it.

p.s. It seems ritalin is the problem
