Thanks buddy. You've inspired me to go back and listen to the late 50's and 60's soul music. My biggest beef with many of the songs back then - they were too short. All under 3 minutes it seems.

Going back to Chaka Khan for a minute. She had some great hits with her band Rufus. Listen to the lyrics here, wow.

Mary J. Blige paid tribute to Chaka Khan on this remake. From her debut album What's the 411?.

When What's the 411? came out in 1992 it was so powerful. It was the perfect blend of soul/r&b and hip hop. I regard it as one of the greatest albums of the 90's. My favorite song from the album was buried at the end

best know for War What is It Good For.....but this one gets the toes tapping and the fingers popping...….Sos, Stop her On Sight....Edwjn Starr
I hear War frequently on Soul Town can honestly say I didn't know much else about Edwin Starr's work. This is brilliant. I love the little 2 second piano riff at the beginning and again at 1:06. Such a soulful voice he had.

Billy Preston, known as the 5th Beatle..recorded this ...That's The Way God Planned It.....I bought it as a single in high school and wore out the needle

This was probably the only Billy Preston song I knew of until now. Gotta lot to learn and explore.

If you're going to play Little Willie John and Otis. may as well spin some Sam Cooke as well.

This shit right is some great shit right here!
OMG!

I'm from the islands, came to Canada when I was 6...then became the BIGGEST metal head! Was ALWAYS the leader of the metal heads where ever i lived. Didn't get into this stuff till I was 18! Hated it in fact. Still the BIGGEST metal/hard rock head....BUT...still love this music! I can blast some Yngwie, or Van Halen, or Metallica, then vibe out to this stuff.
