Smaller things have been back-breakers.
If it was a conservative doing this, you liberals would be losing your focking minds.
Absolutely, that's us liberals. Shallow, petty poppy-haters every last one of us.

Hopefully those who believe in polls also believed in them in the last US election.
The one where Hillary won the popular vote by a few million?

I'm a left NDP voter, but I 100% agree with Garrett on this, what happened to Patrick Brown was fucked up bullshit from the word go. The differnce is I think it was someone in the PCs behind it, because from what I here the Liberals wanted to sit on it until it was too late for the PCs to do fuck all about it, and whoever is behind the hell Patrick Brown has been through wanted him out in time to allow for a leadership race.

Still with this 407 thing going on at least Patrick Brown is having his sweet, sweet revenge on the judases who fucked him over and threatened his family.
I think essguy has always conceded that PB was screwed over by a fake sex scandal. Add him to Roy Moore and Al Franken in that regard. IIRC, essguy's point has always been that PB was deep sixed probably because he was a shallow, nasty, no talent opportunist who sold out to McVety and the social conservative faction of the OPC to get the leadership and then tried to double-X his benefactors. so he didn't have to campaign on an anti abortion / anti gay / anti sex ed platform in liberal Ontario.

So was PB Judas-ed?... Apparently so. Should anyone give a shit?.... Do I cry each night about Roy Moore and the way he was screwed over?.... No, I just feel a little sorry for his horse.

The civil servants that sit around doing nothing all day except surf the web are getting worried that Doug will actually find inefficiencies and it's them.
Dicky, exactly what universe are you living in?

Certainly not any universe I have any knowledge of.

So it's true because essguy said it. And I suppose that everything frankfurter says is true as well.

Let me dry your tears and take you out for an ice cream to make you feel better.

Why, Dicky? What makes you think I feel bad? I was just explaining something to you. Kind of a waste of time, since you missed the point.

Don't doubt that you have no concept of the real world.
Dicky, what the fuck is YOUR concept of the "real world"? Your furnace renovation company or whatever business you took over from your old man after you left high school?

You've never met a civil servant, a judge, probably few lawyers and maybe a politician for a handshake once in every 5 years.

You live in an angry little world where you hate everyone who has a university degree. You have a chip the size of Mount Everest on your shoulder because you pay taxes and you have less money to spend on beer, or porn, or your cottage or whatever you spend it on. Nothing you've posted in this thread shows any understanding of anything to do with running this province or anything except your contempt for people smarter and more sophisticated than you are.

So you have a good night, Dicky and stop taking shots at people like me.

Sorry if I stepped on your huge ego.

Nice personal attack. Seems to be common for you Liberal "elite" to think that you are so much smarter and better than all the mouth breathing uneducated idiots who don't agree with your point of view.

Can't say that I have ever appeared before a judge and the less I have to do with lawyers, the better.

And for the record, I do have an MBA and an accounting designation but this likely pales in comparison to your Rhodes Scholarship and Oxford University education.

Once again so sorry to have triggered you. Please accept my apologies.

Just for the record, I believe that PB got his just desserts. And it wasn't a "fake sex scandal" - the guy was well known as a douchebag, so everything disclosed was likely real. In fact, it was an open secret even when he was an MP in Ottawa. The McVety faction willingly got into bed with Brown - got him elected leader THEN when Brown realized he couldn't win as a bible thumper he made a fake move towards the centre and publicly abandoned the social conservatives (even though his voting record as a Federal MP was 100% socon). What followed was inevitable and it worked because anybody who followed politics and Brown knew that the guy was a hypocritical, phoney, opportunistic asshole. Note that few people outside of Brown's family (and people who benefited from his blatant corruption) miss him or defended him. Also note - that Ford and McVety were talking and testing the waters days BEFORE the Brown scandal hit the newswires.

The ironic twist is that Ford was put into the leadership in exactly the same way, using the same methods as Brown. Fake, instant conservatives. The real story will eventually come out - insiders know or suspect, but have to put on a smiley face because there's an election going on. I suspect that Elliot knows what happened but made the calculation that there was not enough time before the election to blow up the party and rebuild it. Also note that Ford turfed Granic-Allen which upset the So-cons, but the next day he pledged to cancel the sex-ed, which got them back on side (as if they'd vote for any other party anyway... LOL).

Anyway, as I said in earlier threads when polls were showing a Ford Majority that this election is going to be volatile because you have an incumbent party that is despised, an official opposition party that is COMPLETELY fractured and led by a former drug dealing, idiot, thug and then you have the NDP. Ironically, the NDP suffers because of over-hyped criticism of Rae (who actually did a decent job given the circumstances he faced). It's similar to Wynne - who has NOT done a great job, but the criticism of her has been WAY over-hyped. McGuinty is the culprit more than Wynne for the Liberal's trouble.

I suspect that many voters will not make their final decision until they have the ballot in front of them. Then it will be a leap of faith (NDP) or a last minute "hold the nose" vote (OPC or Liberals). That's why I have repeatedly said that calling this election or prematurely celebrating "victory" is a mugs game.

Full disclosure - in my adult voting history I tend to be right-leaning. I've worked as a volunteer for the Ontario PC's in several elections and know a lot of people who are still inside the party. I even re-joined the party to vote in the last leadership vote - but because of the disorganized, incompetent mess of a party organization - never got my code so couldn't vote for Elliot (who by the way, got more votes, but lost because of the way the votes were weighted). The charlatans who have hijacked the Conservative brand both Federally and Provincially make me sick. They're social conservative ass-hats who rely upon ignorance and dimwits to attract and maintain support. In the case of Ford - he's just an ass-hat. The best thing for the OPC would be to lose to a minority Govt so that it can TOTALLY rebuild and then go back to the polls in 18 months or so.

Actually the accusation fell to pieces, not that they were serious to begin with. I hope the PCs enjoy the fruits of treachery.

Even if Brown wasn't taken out via treachery - something would have tripped him up and killed his campaign - he was a walking political accident waiting to happen. In fact, he's lucky that he's getting away with his mortgage fiasco for his house. His crying of "victim" is beyond pathetic - he got his just desserts. It's just too bad that the party he left behind is SO fucked up that they couldn't even run a leadership vote properly and ended up with Ford.

Future votes should require that members have some sort of eligibility hurdle. Simple changes might work: Eg: Candidates can get nominated by new members but a leadership vote should be limited to members who belonged before a certain cutoff date (which would be earlier than the candidate declaration cutoff). This would allow candidates to enter the race by signing up new members - but they would need to campaign for the leadership towards members already in good standing. The new members (IF they are real) can work and campaign - but their votes would not be eligible until after a certain waiting period.
