I can see Bautista helping the Jays as a special coach......we need someone with fire in their belly...who will keep Gibbons awake...they just lost 4 to the A's and it didnt look like anybody cared. I like Solarte but he celebrated the most meaningless home run of the year.
Jose was a swing for the fences at all costs guy and not known for situational hitting. Which was fine when he was in his prime and batting for both average and production / power. Not so good as the talents tailed off a little.
The doubt would be if he would be intellectual enough to diagnose the issues with individual batters and how to best improve their styles. OTOH, Jose himself improved from a journeyman utility IF / OF to one of the best hitters in Jays' history. So maybe I am selling him short.
I love Joey Boom Bats, he got me back into baseball like Carlos Delgado and Roger Clemens never could.
Keep in mind, he's also a very educated man. When he got his scholarship he hit the books as hard as he hit baseballs. He has business interests outside of the game and he's part of the barganing team of the MLPA. Give or take the occasional Rougned Odor, there are more players that love him than hate him. Just ask Byrce Harper.
He had his time - it's PLAKATA time.
