Love Joey Bats, too bad his career is coming to an inglorious end. Wished he had become a productive DH into his 40s.

During his hey days, he had a K/BB rate of under 1.0, more walks than K, which is inheard of for a slugger. Kept his OBP and OPS at elite levels. His keen batting eye should have aged better into his late 30s.

The sad part about this is these former stars, they are always the last ones to know there time has come to end.

It is understandable. The confidence they retain of themselves, is the same confidence that made them great in the first place. Can't blame them for that.

Yeah I understand why it happens, just saying it sometimes makes and ending to a great career a little less climatic. Instead of bow out on a good note with lots of glory, they fade away or dwindle into the abyss. I remember near the end of Rickey Henderson's career, he kept signing one year deals and being released. Eventually playing in the minors, then the independent league.

Having said all that, I do understand the love for the game, and if continuing to play makes you happy, then so be it. Just nice to see the hometown heros go out on top on their own terms.

He would be wise to be a complete batter and do whatever it takes to contribute . Sac flies to right field, grounder to right side, bunt - all to advance runner and forget homers

Do the stuff he and EE never did as a Jay

BTW EE as an Indian has 9 homers and batting 209 and 36 strikeouts and WAR is 0 meaning he could easily be replaced with average player but I do miss the Edwing thing and Joey Bats bat flip . Baseball needs more

Or, hit home runs & doubles.
Things both he & E.E. did very well as Toronto Blue Jays.

Nope. Sac yourself for team when required . They did a lot of striking out with men on base and less than two out

Remember EEs homer that won the series? Less than 2 out and winning run on third calls for a sac fly to right not a homer to left. Which is easier to hit, a homer or sac fly ?

Unwillingness to do whatever it takes to win is why we never made it to the big show , IMHO :fish:

I disagree.

The lack of a Roberto "Catch the taste" Alomar is the reason why we never made it to The Big Schmo.

I also find it ironic that Robbie's McCain juicebox catchphrase is based on Bill Cosby's Jello pudding, "don't waste the taste". Neither did!

Bautista smashed a line drive to center field for a double in his first at bat. I thought he was done as a big leaguer last season , still have some doubts he can succeed long term but I’m rooting for him. He’s on a very young and exciting Braves team that needs some veteran leadership.
Guess I’ll be watching a lot of Braves games this season.

Here’s a letter he wrote to Jays fans.

If he was having any doubts about his ability to still be an effective MLB player, he shouldn't anymore. This she be the final signal to him, that it's time to walk away.

Actually he's not much worse than some of the regulars on the Jays.

No, but most of the those guys are under contract or they're young with more upside.

Now that the PED era is over, most guys at the age of 35 or 36 start to decline. The odd guy like Carlos Beltran will still perform well, but it's rare.

At least he will not end his career wondering if he had just one more season in him.

I wonder if he will retire or eventually re-enter baseball as a coach of some sort.

His bat flip will never be forgotten.

Bautista is the LAST guy the Jays should be hiring as their batting coach...

It would be like Morales coaching players on how to steal bases.
