Pretty straight forward guys. Take your best shot.

BTW, I took 71-75 and my bonus prediction is that Gibbons will be fired. Shapeero will claim that he did a great job of assembling a group that should have competed for first and will blame Gibbons rather than admit he cheaped out and is just waiting for AA's draft picks (Guerrero and Bichette) to mature and lead the team.

I bet shapeero will be happy with 80 wins, hoping most of them will be in the first half so as to keep asses in the seats.

I dont know about the record but they will grab the second wild card spot
You are being very optimistic. I am not seeing much hitting on the team, although defence, pitching and speed should be fine. I think Shack is about right about the record, but Shapiro can't really explain away the obvious that this year's team is just marking time until the new generation of prospects hits the majors in a couple of years.

As the season wears on, Buck and Tabby will feature more and more gab about what is happening in the minors to distract attention from the eventual 4th place finish. Gibby won't get fired. He'll be kept around and fired in a couple of years, so Shapiro can parachute in one of his favourites when the team is again a contender to suck up the glory.

Not optimistic! Starters look great as they did last year and what happened? Moralles and Pearce did not impress last year and they are still here. Tulo is still injured, but team should be use to that by now. Donaldson is unsigned and if they don't sign him soon his days as a Jay are probably numbered. Possibly as early as July fans could be waiting for the September call ups!

I'd bet that they win less than 86.

Under 86 I win. Over 90, you win. 86-90 is a push. $50 donation to the loser's charity of choice.

I predict 73 wins. Josh Donaldson and Stroman get traded before the deadline and the Blue Jays do a mini-rebuild. Something tells me Estrada and Martin may be moved as well.

...it's all about the future.

BTW, what am I doing wrong? I selected making it a public poll, but no names are showing up.

You have to click on one of the red numbers and then the poll results will show up.

Any of the numbers will do

Thank you, sir. I would never have thought of that.

Jays look like a .500 team to me. I agree Gibby will get canned.

In case anyone cares to know, Fangraphs projects the Jays' record to be 86-75, which would be 8th in all of MLB.

https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings

Obviously no one can predict the future, but at least they put some effort and analysis into trying.

It makes me wonder why people seem to want to be overly pessimistic about this season (or about other things, really).
Interesting. Thank you.

The graph suggests that the NL is very weak - or very close to absolute parity, I guess - and the AL will be dominated by the Indians, Astros and the AL-East, all 5 of which teams are projected as being over .500. The Yanks are projected to have an excellent season and the Bosox are picked for 2nd.

Interesting to see how that plays out. Jays fans are depressed because of the acquisitions to boost an already intimidating NYY batting order. It's possible we are missing the fact that most of the rest of the AL is useless.

Wow some of you guys are very optimistic. Where are we getting the runs from?

My predictions.

Smoak will not repeat even close to his production last year.
Martin will continue his offensive slide and will bat close to the Mendoza line.
Travis and Tulowitzki will miss major portions of the season.
The bullpen will under perform.
Estrada will have a bad year.
Happ will have a mediocre year.

They need to trade Donaldson before the deadline as they will not be re-signing him.

They will lose 90 games.

On the bright side, the team has a bright future, 2020 or 2021.

Seriously, I am not trying to stir things up or imply anything. This is simply an observation that I thought was interesting.

Most of the optimistic voters are staunch conservatives/Trump supporters in the politics forum, Phil, Kathleen and Butler and I don't think there were any of that stripe that picked a poor outlook for the Jays. The libs among us trended to lower win totals, me and oagre. Apologies if I misrepresented anyone and their affiliations. These were just the names that I seem to see the most in the politics forum.

Maybe it means that conservatives are more optimistic people by nature.

Wow. You think all of those bad things will happen in one season?

Guys on Bluebirdbanter are much more positive.

The critical thing for me is how strong the starting pitching is. If it is close to 2016 standards we are in with a chance of a WC.

As far as catching, batting and defence is concerned, this seasons addition will be an overall upgrade on 2017. But I don't expect Smoak to be as good.

Really hope I am wrong. 2015 and 2016 were just fantastic to watch and listen to baseball in this city. I just don't share the optimism this year. That said...Go Jays Go!!!
