As part of that trial new footage has been released of that deadly night in June.
In the footage Mateen can be seen entering the reception of the nightclub unarmed while revellers inside - there were as many as 320 in the club that night - enjoy themselves.
Roughly 16 minutes later Mateen returns in his car just as the club announced last orders for drinks at the bar.
He can then be seen prowling inside the nightclub armed with a semi-automatic rifle.
At 2.09am local time police then start to enter the nightclub. You can then see a standoff with several officers rifle aimed at a higher floor.
At 5.14am police storm where Mateen was hiding and he is shot and killed.
Defense attorney for Noor Salman said she was a "simple woman who loved children" and did not know that her husband intended to carry out the devastating terror attack.
Dueling portraits of Salman emerged during opening statements at her trial in US District Court in Orlando.
She faces up to life in prison if she is convicted of aiding and abetting her husband and obstructing a federal investigation.
"The defendant's cold actions gave Omar Mateen the green light to commit these crimes" on behalf of Islamic State, Assistant US Attorney James Mandolfo told jurors.
