I use ad blocking and sportsnet.ca owned by Rogers is crying foul. Because they are losing ad revenue. Well too fucking bad!!! Rogers raises internet rates and their buddies at Bell are looking at ending net neutrality. So fuck them! It's my last tool to fight back and piss them off.

End of rant.

Haven't been able to access Forbes since I started using an Ad Blocker. Don't really care if that is how they do business - fangu ok.

Too bad for Forbes, WSJ, the Times, et al.

I use AdBlockPlus to reclaim screen space stolen by pop-ups, slide-ins and mask-outs and get to the content that brought me to the page. On TERB it's really helpful at getting rid of ugly half-page animated sig-pix.

I'd be quite content to disable the ad-blocker if I believed the offenders would content themselves with polite ads and pictures I can register, consider and ignore — or not — by my choice. The cyber-crap I've been forced to defend myself from makes print-media and it's calm, quiet advertising more attractive with every browsing session.

Many sites these days cry about lost ad revenue
Although it would be hilarious to see a site with no original content (such as Sportsnet)
All they would do is lose readership to another equally generic site with same stories and scores

The pop ups are bad enough on the home office, they are downright infuriating in the cell.

Rogers Next Issue is bleeding money, they will go the way of Shome by the end of the year. I signed on for Shome mainly for the FX shows. I'm not about to binge on The Americans with commercials.

Yes its a real conspiracy, the NYT is a platform for fake news with an agenda for the fall of the so called American way of life. I suppose the NRA mag. and Turner Broadcasting is spouting the truth and has no agenda st all. I would guess your a Trump supporter as well.:der:

In case you didn't notice, you're posting on a Toronto Board. There's no Democratic Party anywhere in our country, the nearest aspiring dictator's in the White House, Communists are a dying breed, and this thread is about media and ad-blocking.

You might make an actual contribution if you could suggest a way to block ads on media-sites you dislike and never visit, but I doubt you will. Personally I relish the thought that you have to accept them from useful sites like the Times if you want the drivel from conspiracy-sites more to your taste.

Most people will root their cell and install a custom rom
The fact this blocks out all ads popups and other general annoyances is just a bonus cherry on top

Could somebody please explain why there seems to be a belief that business should provide anything for free,... ???

"I can watch and record copywrited material for "free",... how cool is that".

I checked out Sportsnet, I'm not getting the ad block bum's rush.

I'm relieved that Bloomberg hasn't given in to aggressive advertising, giving them the big fangu would be difficult.

Uh not sure which world you live in, but
1- Newspapers are free in every city I have ever lived in (most end up in trash anyways)
2- Most sites such as Sportsnet are not actually writing anything, they are link magnets who simply repost word for word the same "news" stories you find on hundreds of other sites
3- Journalism died a long time ago

Look over on right side of frame
It is fairly unintrusive which is why I suspect you miss it
Some sites are outright obnoxious about it

In the world I live in, media is providing copywrited music and movies, sports presentations,... and to expect to use these types of material for free,... maybe in another world.

Sportsnet is provided in many media's,... and is not free.

The TO Star is not free.

The so-called 'free' ad-supported media isn't free at all. It is sold on a per-viewer basis to the advertisers who are exerting more and more control over content and presentation: Insisting story-lines don't show their product in a bad light is content-control, making you respond to a question before viewing is presentation-control. Once the advertisers/customers have done their deal and paid-up, it only remains for the media/supplier to put the content in front of the quantity of eyeballs they contracted for.

For unthinking consumers who simply turn on a radio or TV to receive OTA broadcasts, or pick-up a throwaway paper off the subway seat, it may appears to be free content, but it ain't. Lotsa money was charged and paid before their share was served up.

I use AdBlock to suppress ads (and content) that force themselves on me, rudely and demandingly. Since the advertiser didn't ask or consider what I'd like, pay heed to or tolerate, I see no reason to feel badly about providing that info by demonstration. I would never have been a customer anyway, and since I probably won't see their name, AdBlock may actually save them a little respect. I'll happily tolerate quietly passive and informative ads that just sit at the borders of the page. But experince has taught me to act pre-emptively or I'll suffer.

It's a dialog. The 'bad' ad-hosts track my departure from their stupidly offensive-site without whitelisting it, just as the 'good' ones note I cared enough to tolerate their ads and did as they asked so I could access their content.

We always hope the stupid learn, Or don't reproduce.
