Interesting to compare the top scoring countries with the Happiness Top Scores in the other thread. By the time you get to 13 in this list, you've included all top Ten HappyLands, except for Canada and Australia*. I'd say that correlation makes quite an obvious statement.

*because unhappier but journo-friendlier Costa Rica, Jamaica, Estonia and Austria scored better than us two former British colonies (Go for Top 25 Free Press Places and we're both in, but our Motherland is way down at #40)

Tough to take this too seriously as it's based largely on qualitative data, specifically a survey sent to "media professionals, lawyers and sociologists".

An interesting read on the quantitative tracking though/

Although their data would be difficult to cross-tabulate, who would be more likely to notice and register levels of press-freedom than such folks? It's highly unlikely 'official government data' would be superior.
