Agreed. I think many men have made a spur-of-the-moment mistake, whether it be an insensitive joke or an unwanted hug/kiss and then have been raked over the coals. Sorry but people (ladies) can't have it both ways. Can't say when a guy does it it's wrong and come up with some justification and then give a woman a pass for the exact same action.

It was a public venue for all too see and being taped. Show business and done for the camera and ratings? Especially by her victory celebration. Newsworthy? Not a chance but in today's environment, perfect opportunity to make it so.

In work and social environments, friends and co-workers know I am not a hugger. While everyone is hugging each other at celebrations they know that is something I am not comfortable with. And it is a point of discussion at times, although sometimes in a joking matter. In fact, there were a couple of times at work where I was hugged by a couple of women even though they knew it was not to my liking. In one case, the woman actually told everyone she got me to hug her (if you call my hands at my side while she bear hugged me, a hug). Like Katy, it was a victory for her. I guess I should have reported her to HR. It was a little fun, even I realized that. Another time I was getting an award and when presented I went to shake the hand of the person giving it to me. Many in the audience, including the woman giving me the award, knew what I was like but she felt it necessary to give me a hug instead. Afterwards there were a few laughs with co-workers as they knew how much I disliked being hugged in front of hundreds of people. But again, even though the presenter knew I didn't like hugs, and she was a top person in the company, I guess I should have complained to HR. But realizing the situation, I understood. Yes all individuals have boundaries that should not be pushed aside by others but sometimes it is just not a big deal, IMHO.
