Woods is one back of the leader in a 5 way tie for 2nd after two rounds at the Valspar tournament (Copperhead course). Getting in tune for next month, so long as his back holds up. Not bad for an old man!

I haven't checked yet, but there must be a lot of players that have not completed their 2nd round. I suspect he may be lucky to be in the top 10 at the end of the day.

What was funny was the Globe and Mail sports section that had a picture of him on the golf course. The headline was him coming up short by one stroke. Meanwhile the winner got a small blurb a few pages later and the rest of the article was about Tiger Woods basically not winning (and the Canadian kid flopping).

I think Tiger is reaping the rewards of letting the old hamster out of its cage!!!

Acting upon his sexual urges brings the best out in his golf game!!!

I wonder who generates more readership. Not sure I understand what is so funny. It is totally predictable.

Agree. It's all about ratings....NBC and Golf Channel had its biggest ratings in a very long time the past weekend...I am just glad Tiger was in the race, because we were going to see his every shot regardless. I get pissed when he's 7-10 shots off the lead and we still have to see his every shot and more importantly, miss the shots from other competitors that are more crucial to the battle for the tournament win. Conners shat his pants on Sunday, but I am sure a good learning experience for him sleeping with the lead for three nights.

Also great experience for Conners to go head to head with some of the big names and getting a look at the Tiger circus just one group ahead of him.
Tiger's performance was exceptional, all things considered. If it's put in perspective, he's coming back from a long time off, adjusting to how his "new back" works, etc. And he manages a second place finish. Some guys go their whole careers and never finish second on tour.

I don't think any one could argue that Tiger brings a different degree of excitement to the game. Even Phil, who hasn't always been on great terms with Tiger, has admitted that Tiger changed the game for the PGA and all the players have benefitted from the huge increase in purse money that Tiger's influence has brought.

I agree with everything you say except I don't think that anyone who never even finishes second, will have a terribly long career on the PGA.

Tiger won so much because he was probably the best (clutch) putter in the game. He seems to miss too many now that used to be routine and I don't think the surgeries had any impact there. As well, the other hurdle is that to win a major, he needs to play well all four rounds. He needs to show more consistency. TBH, though, I think he was under par all 4 rounds last week. Plus the fields are tougher. Having said all that, he has shown fairly consistent improvement and he is Tiger Woods so I would never say never.

As good as he was, he gets far too much media attention. Was watching the Palmer Invitational, but turned it off after too much Tiger. He's ranked 149 in the world, is currently tied for 10th, but gets all the air time. Too bad. I won't watch any more.

Check the ratings for last week. He is still unparalleled when it comes to the average sports fan tuning in.

The constant media attention he gets only adds to this. What is so thrilling about watching what is now only a somewhat higher than average player? If he makes great shots, fine, show them as a highlight, otherwise we don't need to constantly watch him do mundane things like lining up a put, taking a practice swing, etc, when there are so many other golfers on the course.

That same interest is reflected on the TERB sports forum as well. Tiger is still a draw and still talked about.

Let me be the first to say that Tiger deserves the air time he's getting today. Currently only 2 back, will he pull off a good win?

Now just one back after 14. The leaders are on 12.

I have never rooted for him, but ya' gotta respect what he is doing.

This is such a time warp. Dude was skulling chips across the green like a 20 handicap last year. I didn't think he'd make another cut. Is 18 majors back in play?

How good is the masters looking at this point. Tiger, phil, rory, justin (where's speith?) Looking to be a great one this year.

Speith got a case of 'the yips'. No major for this year and may go the way of David Duval! and Rory was on fire on the back nine!
