Try logging into iTunes first with the same profile. This is the obvious when it will not recognize the device.

Try going under file/devices.

Unlock your device is you have a pin.

Trust the USB connection. Sometimes when you decline it will remember and won’t let your computer access your phone. There is away to reset this.

Hahahaha - just happened to me. I tried again and made sure the IPhone was turned on and unlocked. And it worked.

Maybe this is the simple "plain sight" solution!
