Think the cartoon is missing a reference to 9/11 (I know it's all recent). Don't remember if it was the CIA or FBI but someone wrote a memo detailing a bunch of Arab guys learning to fly at the same school and of course, it was ignored (perhaps on purpose, according to some conspiracy theorists).

I cannot emphasize enough how great this is, if you’ve ever wanted to learn the before, during and after of the event:

Before I commit to calling the FBI incompetent in this case, which I genuinely believe they are not, I’d like to hear how frequently investigators are warned about similar imminent attacks, and how Cruz compares as a profile to those the FBI takes a greater interest in. I keep hearing ‘there’s one in every school.’

Seems like a national registry for weapons, particularly weapons of war, might help ensure priority cases get the attention they deserve.

Thanks. I'll try and read it.

Like any tip line, there is going to be a high volume of fake tips, tips that don't lead to anything, and of course a few real ones. It is the duty of the law-enforcement organization to sift through every tip and investigate. I understand limited resources but the day after the first mass event where a tip wasn't investigated due to limited resources, there should have been a push for more resources to prevent it. This is not the first time a tip was received and ignored so either resources are not being allocated after asking or nobody's asking/pushing hard enough.

Biggest problem in the US is mentality. A father of one of the victims has been making speeches. Unfortunately, he states that more security in schools is the solution versus some gun control. I don't see a reason why any of these wouldn't help

1) criminal checks for every person purchasing a gun
2) no automatic weapons or high volume cartridges
3) the need for so many guns to be owned by a single person
4) strict licensing (have to be trained to use/operate a weapons
5) no guns for mentally unstable people (based on doctor's diagnosis)

Fact is any or all of these would contribute to making it less likely for mass shootings/gun deaths to take place. However, somehow the right to own a gun in any/all circumstances trumps simple logic.

I've never understood the need for a national registry other than (1) police can check if someone owns a gun before confronting and (2) tracking after a crime has been committed. There is IMO no prevention of crimes that result in having a person register a gun. I can be a law abiding citizen, purchase guns legally, register them, and then turn around and go nuts. Far too many incidents have taken place where the guns involved were purchased legally. So something else is required to effect change.
