LOL I love it. fucking children get all upset when the fans boo or call them out. Grow up you are a professional athlete. I remember watching the leafs play the habs in MTL when Lindros played for the leafs. They would BOO him every time he touched the puck

The chant was meant to insinuate that black people should play basketball and not hockey....I can see why the player took offense to it. The fans weren't booing - they were chanting based on his race. If all the players were white and someone started chanting "basketball" no one one would know what the fuck he was chanting about....

I wonder if the OP would take a moment and explain why he thinks people were chanting "basketball" to a hockey player who happens to be black.

This player needs to grow thicker skin or balls. He's boo hooing about something other players around the world would laugh at. If he played football in Spain he'd die then. This is nothing to what happens in other parts of the world. Wow people are getting weaker and weaker. Like Chappelle said this is a brittle mind. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/syndica...ll-needs-to-do-more-to-combat-racism.amp.html
Well, at least you're being honest and calling it what it is: racism. A lot of the previous posters are playing the "cute" (aka: chickenshit) game of pretending not to know what the problem is.

In the Matrix
Bizarre, the PC left seems to think everything these days is racist when a person of colour is involved

Now apparently the B word is racist as are the people who chanted Basketball towards a black person

Obviously, you're missing the point and you don't even understand where...
Sad, but it's not your fault!

Racism is part of life. Look at our country here. If you're a visible minority you have to work harder and be many times better than the white candidates. Look at places like Bay Street. A lot of the good jobs go to the white guys whose great grandfather or father is connected and ancestors were here selling pelts to the natives. I'd say the only difference here with other places is that here people will not be racist to your face whereas in Europe or US they will say it straight to your face. Let's not even talk about Australia that had a white Australia policy up until the 1970s I believe. Let's also not forget that (and I'm not supporting Trudeau jr or SR) before Trudeau Sr Canada only let in Western European immigrants. So point being is we may like to think everyone wants to hold hands and aging koombaya around the campfire and just because in the big three cities people are mixing it doesn't mean racism is or will ever be eradicated. If you're a visible minority just realize it's another obstacle you have to face when going to school, looking for work or looking for love. Some people even here will never give you a fair chance.

This is the definition of "white privilege"

These fans were being racist - if they yelled "monkey" or used the N-word I'm sure there would be zero doubt but the fact that they used a more subtle insult gives a few people here the idea that maybe it wasn't being racist - IT WAS! There's no argument or debate. Yes professional athletes require thick skin and if the fans had shouted some run-of-the-mill insults the player can't do much. But a bunch of racists being tossed puts a smile on my face. Fans in some other cases have reported hearing racist taunts and the assholes were also removed.

Not true.

If that was the case why do Asians score better school marks, have more degrees and have higher average salaries?

If everything is so racist, why isn't the white man keeping them down?

- Fans are dumb for chanting basketball at a Black guy
- Smith Pelly is dumb for publicly calling out fans. He's an athlete and has surely heard much worse name calling taunts, and trolling from opposing players through his hockey playing days, yet how come he's never publicly called out a fellow hockey player for calling him names in poor taste

I assume you were never involved in sports in your life

See what happens is people mock others any way they can
Sexuality, race, whatever
Most people are smart enough to realize it is not actually real

@occassionally. Don't kid yourself. The white man still running the show. The visible minority (which is a funny term because the minorities will be the majority and the white man is getting bred out of the rich countries. Look at Germany or The Netherlands. The immigrants have five kids to the locals one) may be very technical and smart. Which they are, but the white man uses them as data bitches. Why is it that many of the positions of real power are held by white men? You rarely see minorities as CEOs CFOs etc. Look at Ontario didn't the first Asian or Chinese MPP get elected just a few years ago? Minorities don't have the power yet. This is why you see white guys a lot of the times incompetent in positions of power and their underlings are more capable but because their grandad mick doesn't play golf with the owner they don't get promoted past a certain ceiling. I've seen this happen many times in the private and public sectors.

I always thought Canada would have a minority PM before the US had a minority president. I guess I was wrong. Canada likes to market itself to the world one way but we are far from perfect and not the welcoming utopia they sell to the rest of the world. We have made gains surely but we still have a long way to go. But at least it's not the US where unless you can play ball, dance, or rap you're not getting out of the ghetto and your descendants won't either. This is why if I ever am in a position to promote a smart and hungry visible minority I would and I'd coach them to make it to the next level.

So it's dumb to call out racism?

I don't know this guy's history but some people grin and bear it (maybe when they shouldn't) because making waves might cause more problems than it solves. We always talk about woman being courageous coming forward and a target of racism is no different. They are brave to come forward because there will most likely be backlash.
