Sponsorship down, ratings down, fewer and fewer cities bidding for a multi billion dollar event. Thank god Toronto staffers have regained some sanity and stopped bidding. Will there be a day without Olympics or will we have a scaled down version at a permanent sire perhaps? Because of the time difference and NHL players staying home, this is the least interesting games in recent memory for me. Great that Canada is doing well, but our claim to fame is winning all of the goofy, made-up sports.

I always find the winter games more enjoyable to watch compared to the summer games, mainly because Canada now Canada does so well.
The summer games has too many euro centric as you put it goofy made up sports.
Even without the NHLers,Canada had great prospects/future HOFers on the 1992 &1994 teams, this year squad is borderline bronze at best material.
IOC needs a group rethink, but I’m still a huge Olympic fan

I am still a big fan. The time difference is making me watch less. Personally I like that NHL players not participating it would overshadow the other athletes.

I find myself overcome with anticipation of the Luge event. I mean, who hasn't slid ass first down a hill on a sheet of ice. I am glad that Canada excels in the winter Olympics , but for the most part the events have no interest for me and I am a big sports fan.

I stopped watching.....I just assume everyone is a cheater....especially summer games. IOC has to be one of the most corrupt organizations around.

I stopped watching and caring years ago. Drug cheats, bribery scandals, professional athletes vs amateurs have made the Olympics into a joke.

Tie for gold for most corrupt organization—-IOC and FIFA
Not surprising both are euro centric organizations

I always laugh when I see a photo of the two man luge event. They should have a mixed two person luge event... naked. Now that I think about it, if there’s a provider out there with a luge, I’d pay extra just to be the bottom person!

Not a big fan of judged events in summer or winter. But love the timed events, especially skiing since I used to race. Also like watching some of the events which never get coverage unless it’s the Olympics. Eg: Biathlon, Bobsled, ski jumping and yes - luge. For the skiing, it’s disappointing how Canada does these days. I think it was a mistake (made years ago) for Alpine Canada to branch out into too many events. For the traditional Alpine disciplines, I think Canada should go back to concentrating on the speed events, downhill and super G.

I've been following the skating.

Having said that the Olympics is a financial back breaker. The IOC got red in the face when Toronto, Boston and Milano pulled out of the bidding process for the 2024 Summer games. The price tag for the Vancouver Olympics was was $ 7 Billion. The pricetag for the Sochi Olympics swelled to $50 Billion - most of it ending up in offshore accounts.

I vacationed in Athens a few years after they hosted the summer games. They had a beautiful, shiny new transit system that collected dust. We all know how well the city and country fared after that

I take the approach that just about any sport that is a competition between the best in the world, is probably worth watching (except basketball, of course).

There are 6 sure things in life: death, taxes, libtards, Conservative blow hards, terrorists and Olympics. :bolt:

Politicians are foolish with spending money despite lessons learned they will do it again.

Toronto may bid again for 2032 and 2036. Different city and city hall (politicians) by then.

As for those goofy sports they aren't newly made up, they have been in the X-games for years. Just as in the new summer sports in the Olympics they were in the x-games.

The IOC is the gravy train of money and privilege, don't think they are just gonna shut down like that, they are good at seducing politicians to buy the games.

Sorry to disappoint you but the Olympics will be around for a while, but the fate of the world is in the hands of 2 mad men.

Also what's with all this Hijab and transexual left wing propaganda on every commercial. Every commercial is about the Hijab girl or gay / trans ballerina guy getting bullied and beaten up by the mean straight white people.

IDK, I never watch commercials, I go to the washroom, get a drink, check my tweets and emails.
