Getting back on-topic, some of Trumps' tweets which I think some might actually be good ideas:
The first idea is absolutely sensible and the exact thing that the NRA has been fighting against for decades. Of course for the $30 million, I would expect this idea won't make it to Trump's desk.

With the way the Senate and Congress are, it would likely need to be an executive order. Could always hope that he keeps hearing what the kids are saying and doesn't get swayed by the disgusting conspiracy theorists on Fox News.

NY Post – The younger brother of deranged school shooter Nikolas Cruz was committed to a mental health facility, according to reports.

Authorities removed someone Friday from the home of Rocxanne Deschamps, a longtime family friend of the Cruz brothers who took them in after their adoptive mother died of pneumonia in November, The Palm Beach Post reported.

A friend of Deschamps confirmed Zachary Cruz, who turns 18 next week, was the person removed from the home.

Are these the same “Authorities” that looked into the mental state of Nikolas and let him walk free?

The younger Cruz brother was involuntarily committed under Florida’s Baker Act, under which he can be held involuntarily for up to 12 hours for an involuntary psychiatric exam. It’s unclear if he’s been released.

Nikolas Cruz left Deschamps’ Lantana, FL mobile home around Thanksgiving after he and Deschamps squared off over a gun.

“He bought a gun and wanted to bring it into my house,” she said in comments that have since been wiped from her Facebook page, the paper reported.

Chad Bennett, a family friend, said Deschamps gave Cruz an ultimatum and Cruz “chose the gun and he left.” He moved in with family in northern Broward county, a Cruz family lawyer told the newspaper.

The amount of training LE receives is grossly overstated. The average beat cop will get maybe an intorductory 2 week crash course on firearms training and shoots once a year to qualify from then on. ....
And that's why police policy has the beat cops merely contain the situation and wait for SWAT to show.

If we can't trust a typical cop to handle a live shooter situation, why would we want teachers to try?

So sad & tragic. Trump thinks arming school teachers is one answer in meeting with students from Valentines. Too many lives lost.

So to cut down on gun shootings, have every school have more guns. Haha
Exactly. And the same logic tells us that to cut down traffic on the 401 we need more cars on there. Makes perfect sense to me.

Wrong fuji, an armed teacher will always stand a better chance of defending a shooter then an unarmed one.
Why would a teacher defend a shooter? Wouldn't the teacher be trying to take him down?

So the answer is teacher or trained staff to carry guns? LOL

Sounds good. In that case, a school might have 10 staff members qualifying to carry a gun.

All that we need is a pissed off student to grab the gun (from their holster or from their desk), and blast away.

So to cut down on gun shootings, have every school have more guns. Haha
There are 1.5 million concealed carry permits in Florida alone. All of these require training and certification. Many of these people practice regularly at the range and compete in action shooting. They shoot way more than ordinary cops. The OPP have to shoot 200 rounds a year to stay current. Montreal Police is a mere 50 a year , and a lot don't even show up. When I was a competitive pistol shooter, I would shoot over 200 rounds on a week-end, never mind a year.

In the US, it is illegal to reveal your concealed weapon unless you have a purpose to draw it: You can actually go to jail in that case. So no, a student is not going to grab the gun off a holster or out of a desk (you have absolutely no idea) because the holster is inside the trouser belt, or on a holster on the ankle, and must be out of sight at all times.

The real purpose of having 20% of school staff with concealed weapons is deterrence. The place ceases to be a gun-free zone and a magnet for crazies. They generally go for easy targets, and not those that shoot back.

Go back to the terrorist attack at a Nairobi shopping centre a few years ago. A lot of people were saved by local civilians licensed for handguns. They were erroneously portrayed as plain-clothes police officers by the ignorant press. When the shooting started and hostages were taken, they went back to protect shoppers from the terrorists. Turns out that the local police, the ones with the AK-47's, were very slow responding and displayed a bit of incompetence when they actually got there.

"But after arriving at the mall Haji was quickly thrown into the heart of a rescue operation – led by a group of civilians with access to weapons and several plainclothes police – that saved hundreds of shoppers long before the security forces proper took over.

"Suddenly everybody was armed," Haji, himself a licensed firearms carrier, recalls. "Instinctively we decided to give cover to the Red Cross guys."

Teachers are intimately aware of their surroundings, including the floor plan of the school, and local contingencies should something happen. Do you actually think that the crazy with the gun is going to wait for the SWAT team to arrive before starting to execute everybody in sight? How do you contain a situation where a shooter has a 'captive audience' and people are dying every second? What's everybody supposed to do in the meantime: sing Kumbaya and get a group hug with the shooter? Ya, works real swell against a sociopath.

Concealed carry holders are taught to draw their guns as a last resort. In a public setting, so as not to get mistaken for the criminal by other shooters. So no, they're not going to start shooting wildly in the air. This is so ignorant.

Wilbur gets it.

Here's some news clips of teachers arming themselves voluntarily well before this latest shooting:
