Too bad. You could hear his voice was leaving him from all the cancer treatments he got.

I hope the Jays give him a nice send-off. I think they will

Tom Cheek has a place on the Jays' wall of honour, and I hope that Jerry Howarth will get his spot up there too. It would be nice to see it done soon, while Jerry himself can appreciate the honour.

It will happen. The Tom and Jerry show is a part of Toronto sports history now.

They are honouring Doc this year. It will probably happen later this year or maybe next.

Sad news, he's an irreplaceable icon.

Both he and Tom Cheek were Americans who made Toronto home. Cheek began with the inception of the team in 1977 alongside HOF pitcher and WW II Veteran Early Wynn. Howarth came in on a trial basis in 1981, his position was made permanent the following year.

The amusing aspect of this commercial is that Jerry is not technologically inclined and doesn’t own a cell phone!!

Buck is the only one left from the old school. Very highly respected in MLB, has done several WS.

I'll never forget this:

If it had been the other way around Buck wouldn't have gotten hurt. Phil Bradley was an athlete, Gorman Thomas chugged the bathpaths like he chugged his beers.

I recall that in game 6 of the '92 series win for the Jays, it was Jerry's turn to take the mic in the 11th inning and when the Jays took the lead in the top half, he opted to have Tom call the bottom half so Tom could call the Jay's winning their first crown. Classy move indeed...
