I installed AVAST the free antivirus on my computer a few days ago. Now I keep getting a popup that says AVAST saved me from the Win3232:Evo-gen(Susp) virus.

What is the Win32:Evo-gen(Susp) virus ?

Is it real?

How do I get rid of it PERMANENTLY?

Should I uninstall AVAST the free antivirus?

Likely not real. All those antivirus programs say they saved you from multiple threats to make you feel good about your purchase. If you have win10 it has antivirus already built in no need for third party stuff. Besides all the third party antivirus programs I've ever seen muck things up more than they help.

Keep the free Avast, it works well. The free windows antivirus did not work for me.

I dunno. I've been running Webroot SecureAnywhere as my firewall and antivirus. A few times recently when I accessed the Pirate Bay via Firefox to download videos I got ransomware pop-ups that turned out to be harmless, but I had to shut down my computer to get out of them.

Then I read that, contrary to popular belief, running two anti-virus programs is stronger than one, especially re: ransomware and similar attacks.

So I bought and installed Malwarebytes Premium, which I'm now running in addition to Webroot. Since that time when I access the Pirate Bay via Firefox, Malwarebytes has advised that it has blocked malicious websites every time, while still allowing me to use the Pirate Bay to get my tv shows and other videos. And so far no more fake ransomware pop-ups that lock up my computer.

My computer seems as fast as it was before I installed the second anti-virus program.

For what it's worth...

This is not only an impossibility, but even installing 1 AV program will result in a performance hit
Many articles written on how real time shielding is worthless in tech circles

(I don't see why it is even needed, you scan a new file you download sure but why keep rescanning your existing files)

You know you can close those pop-ups very easily with a couple keystrokes right? But I assume you are using the mouse...
Also it would be better to simply disable the script in the first place on browser and you would never see the pop-ups at all

I believe it answers all your questions.

I've replaced it with free Bitdefender because I was tired of Avast's constant pop-ups. Avast has a very good virus detection and removal engine as measured by independent lab testing. I just found the pop-ups friggin annoying.

Also suggest you download and run the following free programs occasionally:
Malwarebytes
Superantispyware

Really? Care to provide some URLs from a couple of quality sites proving your claim?
I can't imagine any enterprise that would even remotely consider not running AV on their Windows servers and PCs. All major security standards (PCI, SOC, SSAE 16, etc.) require it.

(I don't see why it is even needed, you scan a new file you download sure but why keep rescanning your existing files)
other activities can introduce viruses to your computer. These can include:
- Malicious scripts on web sites
- By clicking on a pop-up on a website. You might not even realize it's a pop-up
- By opening infected emails (doesn't even have to have an attachment).
- Inserting an infected hard drive or thumb drive.
- Not patching vulnerabilities in common programs and running a script hidden in a web site or office file or a dozen other sources
- Online ads
Some of the attacks launched from the above sources will infect files that are already downloaded to your computer

Geesh, why so nasty? Nope. I know the ones xmontrealer is speaking of as I've seen them myself. These pop-up pages lock up your browser and sometimes entire PC. Sometimes you can still get into Task Manager and close the windows and browser manually . Other times you have to hold the power button as nothing else works. I've even had to pop the battery and pull the power cable to recover.

Also it would be better to simply disable the script in the first place on browser and you would never see the pop-ups at all
Really? Please, explain to us how to do that.

I use Norton and Spybot. Never had an issue and cleans up the system well.

Norton currently holds the title for best paid-for AV application. Very comprehensive protection and very light footprint. If you like Spybot, suggest you try (free) Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware.
