This particular example is benign but it's the line of reasoning behind it that is causing lots of problems in other areas of modern life.

Can I assume you mean ‘for men?’

My mistake for assuming. Then what’s the ‘line of reasoning’ and the ‘problems’?
With all due respect, it's not worth getting into a verbal war of attrition with a extreme leftist zombie.

You would think the government could find something more productive to do with their time, than to make mountains out of mole hills. I agree "sons" refer to all of us, just as man refers to all of us. i.e. mankind.

With all due respect, it's childish to assert views you aren't willing to defend.

On the subject of male privilege, I laughed when I read “I can’t speak for women but if I could I think most would agree with me... has no real effect.”

It’s great it doesn’t effect you or your friends, but clearly it effects some. If there was no opposition to this change that’s been fought for since the early 80s, time/energy would have been minimal. There are many pieces of legislation designed to protect women or gender diverse people, or to enhance their role in society, most of which move like molasses through parliament.

Assuming that spending time and energy on this has prevented some great equalizer bill from coming to pass, is wishful thinking. Just take a look at current legislation in the senate to get a good idea how our parliamentarians spend their time.

But back to the anthem. I don’t really care, it doesn’t effect me in any meaningful way. I’ll sing or not sing whatever I want. If someone wants to change official language to make it more inclusive? Sure, because being someone who doesn’t care, I really don’t care.
LOL. It's a fair point. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If I don't write the line and just start with "I think women.....", usually someone or a bunch come on and say I'm not a woman so I can't speak for them. So I am heading responses off like that by acknowledging this. Again, this is what I think, it is not something I know - ladies (or gents who know otherwise) are free to disagree.

In all honesty I really don’t care either way. I mean when was the last time I actually sang the national anthem?

As long as they didn’t change it to something stupid (which they didn’t ) then I’m happy with it. This change is really not a big deal to me. It’s great but not a big deal.

Does this even matter? With all the issues Canada and Canadians are facing, how on earth did this even make it to a government agenda? So, so, so many more important things for the Feds to focus on.

I’m not happy with the change, as a result whenever I hear the anthem I’m going to take a knee in protest.

Another win for the SJWs and the P.C era.

Personally i guess i don't really care cause i don't care about the english version of the national anthem, i honestly didn't even knew what it was minus the ending because of the Habs games before reading this thread, but every single little victory of the SJWs annoys me.

Gee, old thread got my attention. I think the question is biased since the only choice is being politically correct to support. As a non-Canadian who loves a good singer or group singing O Canada I think the change is not so much PC but just acknowlegement that today women are more equally treated and something as important as the national anthem should be about all. Not sure if women now serve in the military like finally in the U.S. but that is another factor.

Most dictionaries define "son" as male i.e. Definition of son
1 a : a human male offspring especially of human beings
b : a male adopted child
c : a human male descendant

The point about "mankind" however is good. uskind?

And my favorite entertainment in Ontario - the O Canada Dinner Theater in Niagara sings O Canad avery well!

I know they change it but I have still heard it sung the way I know and too the point that I don't know, and am not looking at the OP, what the line was changed to. I just can't remember but I remember the way it was taught to me originally.
