After Trump Said Palestinians Disrespected U.S., Nikki Haley Blasts Abbas as 'Lacking Courage and Will to Seek Peace'

U.S. will not 'chase after leadership that lacks what is needed to achieve peace,' Haley tells UN after Trump rips into Palestinians in meeting with Netanyahu

Reuters and Haaretz Jan 25, 2018 7:13 PM

The U.S. ambassador to the UN criticized Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, saying Thursday that the Palestinian leader "lacked the courage and the will to seek peace."

Addressing the United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East, Nikki Haley said the United States will not "chase after leadership that lacks what is needed to achieve peace."

Haley ripped into Abbas' speech two weeks ago at a meeting of the Palestinian leadership as "a speech that indulges in outrageous and discredited conspiracy theories."

She said that it was "not the speech of a person with the courage and the will to seek peace."

Her statement mirrors the sentiments voiced by President Donald Trump, who spoke to the media ahead of at a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday.

Trump criticized the Palestinians, who refused to meet Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to Israel this week in protest over the administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"When they disrespected us a week ago by not allowing our great vice president to see them, and we give them hundreds of millions of dollars in aid and support, tremendous numbers, numbers that nobody understands.

"That money is on the table. That money is not going to them unless they sit down and negotiate peace" with Israel, he said.

However, Trump then noted that the U.S. had taken the issue of Jerusalem out of the talks. "They never got past Jerusalem. We took it off the table. We don’t have to talk about it anymore." Turning to Netanyahu, he said, "You win one point, and you’ll give up some points later in the negotiation, if it ever takes place. I don’t know that it ever will take place."

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has since fired back, according to officials for the Palestinian leader, saying that if Jerusalem is off the negotiating table then the U.S. no longer has a seat at that table.

Trump's statement that Jerusalem is "off the table" contradicts what he himself said and what his vice president recently told Israelis: that the U.S. decision to recognize the city as Israel's capital will not influence the final status of its borders.

The meeting between the heads of state is taking place just 72 hours after Netanyahu met with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence in Jerusalem, who promised that the United States would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to an existing consular office in Jerusalem by the end of 2019.

The only other bilateral meeting that Trump is scheduled to have with a world leader on Thursday is with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

She's such a dumb cunt. She just oozes 'stupid' when she speaks.
A fitting mouthpiece.

Yup, she's as much a diplomat as Trump.

What I've read says that Trump has a peace plan, worked out with the Saudis, that the Palestinians won't and shouldn't ever accept.
http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-C...ons-due-to-Saudi-leaked-Jerusalem-plan-536945

It means giving up Jerusalem, tons of land, a contiguous state and control over borders and airspace.
Essentially, its just more Bantustans.

Even better, Kerry has been talking to Abbas and saying 'stay strong, Trump won't last a year and then I'll run'.

The two state solution is dead.

Anything that includes 'giving up Jerusalem' will never fly.
Trump is just too stupid to realize that.

You sir are TOO POLITE!!! She does not deserve such respect.
Perhaps not, but we deserve better. Find a more grown-up term of abuse, and one more suited to this particular Board.

Sometimes you need to call a spade a spade....but they do have a history of moronic US ambassadors to the UN. Samantha Power was not much better and Bolton was (is) a dickhead.

The American disdain for UN speaks volumes about it's empirical aspirations.

And, yes, Ms. Haley is the most moronic ambassador ever, she should be sent to the International House of Pancakes to learn something about international affairs.

The UN is a Globalist organization and corrupt to the bone. Haley is a moron. And America is an Israeli proxy State. As Nodding Yahoo said..." When we're done with America it can dry up and blow away ".

Yes, its really turning into a bit of a shit show.
Pence is in Israel but won't meet with Abbas (he's meeting others in the EU). During Pence's speech at the knesset the Israeli Arab members all protested his speech and were promptly kicked out. So Pence spoke to a parliament which temporarily erased all Palestinians from presence.

Pence has also been surprised that Israeli Christians are also Arabs who are just as pissed off with him and won't meet with him either.

Slate calls it the farewell to peace tour.

The Saudi/Trump peace plan looks pretty much like entrenched apartheid and is really just a continuation of the present policies.

Trump cutting funding to the PA should lead to the folding of the PA, in which case Israel would have to fund it all themselves and run the full apartheid state themselves as well.

Yet in this case 100% accurate. Abbas showed his lack of interest in peace when he rejected Olmert's offer which was better for the Palestinians than even the Arab Leagues plan.

Yet Abbas also rejected a plan that would leave the old city and holy sites under joint PA/Israeli/international control, a completely contiguous Palestinian state including a land corridor to Gaza, some refugees going to Israel and compensation for the rest.

Trump has been counter-productive but that doesn't let Abbas off the hook.

As a protest the Palis should put the Trump logo on their side of the boarder and call it the Trump Prison.

Agree.
You have to wonder, Trump isn't the only one who doesn't want peace.

Peace would cut the power base of many including Abbas, Hamas, and Netanyahu. I just hope that the Palestinians develop some significant political groups to take their place and actually support peace.

Wow that is the first hint of admission I have seen from you that there are elites in Israel that have a vested interest in the status quo. Are you starting to wake up from your long sleep?

The Olmert offer was as legit as a door to door natural gas plan.
Olmert refused to give Abbas a map, so Abbas tried to sketch something out on a napkin.
But without a map the offer was useless as it wasn't concrete.

I know you think it was the best the Palestinians will ever get.
Unless they get a one state solution with equal rights, that would be the best deal for the Palestinians, then and now.
