Grown Man With Road Rage Allegedly Grabs Teen By Throat In Kingston, Ont.

KINGSTON, Ont. — A 46-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly attacking a child in a road rage incident in eastern Ontario.

Police say the accused was the passenger in a car that had been driving through a Kingston, Ont., parking lot at high speed. They say a near collision resulted in him "flipping off" another driver, who then honked his horn.

Investigators allege that after the driver who honked parked his vehicle, the accused approached and yelled racial remarks and threatened he could have him killed.

When the driver's 13-year-old son told the accused not to speak to his father like that, police say the accused allegedly grabbed the boy by the throat.

Police say the father began yelling and punching at the accused in an attempt to get him to let go of his son, which attracted passersby who intervened and broke up the altercation.

They say a Kingston man was arrested at his home and charged with assault and uttering threats arising from the Saturday morning incident.

Luckily, it happened in Canada where the worst of it is a swollen throat by the boy. Charges and court to follow.

If this had happened in the USA, we would be reading about a 13 year old being shot possibly along with his father.

If this had happened in the USA, and you would be reading about a 13 year old being shot possibly along with his father, you would also be reading about an aggressor being convicted and sentenced to 110 years in the slammer. Which is why such events are extremely rare, at least for people who are licenced for concealed carry. They don't give concealed carry licences to anybody, just in case you weren't aware of that fact.

But it would be a very unlikely event in the USA because in most States, anybody law abiding can own a handgun, and the aggressor in this case would not approach the car with the 13 year old in case his father had a handgun to defend himself and his loved one.

In Canada, gun crime is treated as a joke. Criminals committing crimes with a hand gun are very often given bail so soon after being charged, where they just reoffend as if nothing had happened..... 'but your Honour, he was just turning his life around!' And if they are convicted on a plea bargained manslaughter reduced charge after having been in remand for 2 years, the measly 8 year sentence they get ('he's really a nice guy and plays with his little cousing on Sundays') would be out in 2 years because of the double credit of remand time towards the sentence; no such deals in the US.

In Canada, we rely on police to defend us against criminals who think (often rightly) thay they won't get caught.... too late in most instances.

An armed society is a polite society.
