I'm not sure how you can hold an 11 year old responsible for this. And I'm the first to say if an adult did this then prosecution should occur.Lemme guess... no consequences for the girl or her brother?
Or whoever put them up to this?
Wow what a sicko. And the worst for me now is some activist made a statement to the cbc that they are sorry it didn't happen.
If she did it on her own then let the young offenders act do its thing.Lemme guess... no consequences for the girl or her brother?
Or whoever put them up to this?
Well, either she concocted it and SHOULD be held responsible for it... or someone put her up to it and THEY should be held responsible for it.I'm not sure how you can hold an 11 year old responsible for this. And I'm the first to say if an adult did this then prosecution should occur.
Absolutely the School is going to need a big assembly to educate on this.
And the worst for me now is some activist made a statement to the cbc that they are sorry it didn't happen.
Crazy.
I'm betting she came up with it. But she is 11. I don't think the YOA even applies here. No doubt her parents will not be tolerant of this. And her credibility for now is shreded.Well, either she concocted it and SHOULD be held responsible for it... or someone put her up to it and THEY should be held responsible for it.
How many Police resources have been wasted over the last three days? How much public concern has been wasted?
If I were a Muslim I would damn well insist that someone gets punished... cuz guess what? When it REALLY happens, people are going to yawn.
You're OK with "it didn't happen, nothing to see here, move on"?
You're right, the YOA act applies to 12+.I'm betting she came up with it. But she is 11. I don't think the YOA even applies here. No doubt her parents will not be tolerant of this. And her credibility for now is shreded.
All the School can do is use it in conjunction with police as a teaching tool. The parents no doubt (I hope) will come down hard as well.
But you can't jail or fine or give a criminal record to an 11 year old. I just can't get behind that.
She's ELEVEN. What exactly do you suggest for punishment? You're right, the YOA act applies to 12+.
In general I agree with that... but if she came up with it on her own, then she has demonstrated the maturity to be punished for it.
She didn't grab a chocolate bar and run out of a store.
She through through a story, knew how the police and media would react, thought through her lines, and got her younger brother involved and coached him.
Oh, I didn't realize she was ELEVEN.She's ELEVEN. What exactly do you suggest for punishment?
It's a stupid situation. You're right, the YOA act applies to 12+.

It's up to the parents. And her peers. Sometimes that can be a far worse fate.Oh, I didn't realize she was ELEVEN.
Just let it slide then.
No harm, no foul, right?
She has done society, and her culture a great disservice.
I hope so.It's a stupid situation.
But right now I'm betting there is one set of supremely pissed off parents who are also embarrassed as hell. And one 11 year who is going to be incredibly unhappy for some time.
The motivation from Muslim peers to ensure she understands her mistake will no doubt impress upon her the seriousness of the lie.
Somehow I doubt a hug and forgiveness will be it.
If the kids you work with are volunteering..... tell them to not come back. What is forcing you to keep a theif or liar?I hope so.
I deal with student volunteers on occasion.
In many cases, no matter what (theft, lying, missing shifts), the kids can do no wrong, and the parents not only defend them, but get ridiculously offended at the suggestion that their little angel did what is being suggested. And sadly, that attitude flows down to the kids themselves.
I have a pretty strong feeling that she will be punished by her parents.Oh, I didn't realize she was ELEVEN.
Just let it slide then.
No harm, no foul, right?

Punishment?
How about community service?
How about a public apology, to the Police for wasting their time, to society for being a brat, and to all Muslims for embarrassing them?
See, that wasn't so hard, was it?
Don't worry, they get the boot... but it's amazing what lengths the parents will go to insisting that there is no possible way that their prince or princess could possibly do what is being suggested. If the kids you work with are volunteering..... tell them to not come back. What is forcing you to keep a theif or liar?
Unless an actual crime was committed, then the police can't do anything.Lemme guess... no consequences for the girl or her brother?
Or whoever put them up to this?
