Steve Bannon lawyers up amid speculation that he’ll turn on Trump in the Russia probe

Former Trump political strategist Steve Bannon is lawyering up in preparation to “fully cooperate” with special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.

The Daily Beast reports that Bannon has recently retained the services of Bill Burck, of the firm Quinn Emanuel, in preparation for cooperating with the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“Two sources tell us Burck is helping Bannon prepare for an interview with the House intelligence committee, which is currently scheduled for next week,” writes the Daily Beast. “Sources also said Bannon plans to ‘fully cooperate’ with investigators.”

Bannon’s decision to retain Burck comes amid speculation that he might turn on President Donald Trump in the Russia probe.

Bannon stepped down from his position as head of Breitbart News this week amid Trump’s furor that Bannon believed Donald Trump Jr. would get “cracked like an egg” by Mueller’s team over his infamous meeting with Russian officials in 2016. Bannon also suggested that Trump and his family would likely be brought down by a massive money laundering operation that Mueller and his team would soon uncover.

Republican strategist Cheri Jacobus speculated on Thursday that Bannon was planning to crush Trump in the Russia probe after the president was instrumental in getting Bannon fired from Breitbart and his Sirius XM radio program, as well as convincing the wealthy Mercer family to stop funding Bannon’s campaigns.

“Bannon and others who ‘know too much’ can be dangerous to a president with a few too many secrets,” she wrote. “Trump would be wise to heed this advice: Never put anyone in a position where they’ve got nothing left to lose."

If true then this will truly be the beginning of the end of this Mueller Investigation. There was speculation all along that we would appear before the Mueller team especially considering his remarks about Trump Junior and Jared Kushner.

We better schedule a trip out to Costco to get a skid or two of popcorn.
This could get epic.

Unless Bannon has credible evidence,... just another book of fiction.

No doubt Bannon has all the Insider Information as he was Trump's right hand man. For once he will have all the facts.

Rather than Raw Story, this is more likely raw sewage. I doubt that there is any information that Stephen Bannon has which is even remotely related to the supposed subject of the Special Counsel's Investigation.

Then there is nothing to fear, and no legal fees to fish for.

If you believe that a prosecutor may be coming after you even if they don't have a leg to stand on, it is better to retain counsel post haste, rather than wait until the situation has become critical.

How surprising advice from a lawyer: no matterwhat the case is, hire a lawyer, or 2

Indeed if there is a pandemic in your area, and you feel sick -- for heavens sake disconnect your phone line outside (or if you have a cell phone put it in your car and park it a mile away) and then just see what happens. For gosh sake don't let a physician know, they are just out to line their pockets.

Is it tiring having to write so many denials each day?

Gowdy Trashes Bannon for Refusing to Answer Questions: But He ‘Can Help People Write Books’

by Ken Meyer | 10:59 am, January 17th, 2018

Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is not impressed with Steve Bannon for claiming executive privilege as his reason to not answer questions before the House Intelligence Committee yesterday.

Gowdy spoke to Bill Hemmer on America’s Newsroom on Wednesday, and the first subject that came up Bannon saying that the White House ordered him not to talk about his work with President Trump. Gowdy suggested that the most annoying part of Bannon’s reluctance to answer questions is that its harder now to ask him about his statements to Michael Wolff about the Trump campaign’s Russian lawyer meeting.

“This is the same person who accused two of the president’s family members of committing treasonous acts, so of course we’ll want to cross-examine him on what he thinks was treasonous,” Gowdy said. “If you accuse somebody of a crime for which you can be put to death, what is your evidence for that?”

Bannon was subpoenaed yesterday for his refusal to cooperate, and Gowdy eventually conceded he was frustrated that the former Breitbart chief asserted “privileges that do not exist”:

“I am really frustrated when witnesses have all the time in the world to talk to the media, on and off the record, and they can help people write books, but they can’t talk to the representatives elected by their fellow citizens. He is happy to tell an author about “treasonous,’ unpatriotic’ acts, but he won’t tell members of Congress when he is pressed on it. I don’t know of any privilege that lets you pick and choose who you answer questions for.”

FFS, Gowdy is one of the congressmen - along with Nunes - who could be described as Trump's little schnauzer dog!

As he joined the campaign after the Trump tower meeting he won't have anything to add there.

Obviously he will have some insider information. The question is whether it's relevant to the I investigation mandate or are they fishing.

And I'm highly doubtful he will have any insight into Trump finances. I don't see them sharing family business with him.

Still will be interesting and more fodder for the pundits.

This will be more interesting and fodder for Mueller, as a cooperating witness.

Manaford and Flynn have sparked other lobbyists releasing more information of overseas contracts, in order to avoid similar charges.

And now Mueller is looking to see if Russia funded the NRA to aid Trump.

They just delayed Papadopolous' sentencing, which means this investigation is still very much ongoing.

The first one is good news as it's actually some bleach into The swamp.

The second will need lots of dots for a connection.

The other reason to delay Papadopoulos's sentencing is his information proved worthless and so the deal is now off. But let's wait and see.
