Can't say about the men, Joko may prevail.

As for the women it will be a young gun: the leading contenders are Caroline Garcia, Naomi Osaka and, if she stays focused, Garbine Muguruza. For the Spaniard it is her last chance to win a slam on consecutive years. She won the French in 2016, Wimbledon in 2017. With her bugaboo Simona Halep eliminated there should be nothing stopping her.
With all due respect you do realize this is an ATP thread? Why don't you make a separate WTA thread if you enjoy discussing the women so much?

Novak says he still might pull out of the Aussie Open but if Not a clash with Roger in the semi's is something for us to look for ... Is Nadal close to 100 percent and or is Roger going to continue what he did in 2017 ?

Sorry left out Andy Murray but he had major surgery ...
Well with last final finished it seems the over 30 club prevails again ... Roger Nadal and Novak get the slams .

Are you the posting Inquisitor, lighten up...and I just predicted the US Open's WOMEN's champion.

The men's game has become static, no one's challenging the Top 3, not sure if Andy Murray can fully recover from a hip injury. Del Potro's only chance was to break Joker in the tie break, it didn't happen. Joker never loses a set when he's up two love.

A 20 year old won the US Open, it's time for Shapo to step up. I watched his match against Kevin Anderson, he's not that far off. His inexperience and inability to put away second serves cost him the match. The best return of server I ever saw was Jimmy Connors, it's time for Shapo to give him a call.

I love the women, sorry Pinseeker. Now that Serena has been broken, the field is wide open. Potential Australian Open winner.

Granted, but the men's game isn't worth speculating on. I've picked two winners on the women's side. As for greatness, if Garbine Muguruza (two months older than Genie) cures what ails her mentally, there's no reason to not believe she can pick up another Slam next year. She already has the French Open (16) and Wimbledon (17).

As for the men, Thiem and Zverev haven't broken through yet. I don't see anyone challenging Joker's hegemony. Maybe, with the right coaching, Shapo can break into the Top 10. He needs to be more economical with his follow through and fix his return of serve. He should have beaten Kevin Anderson.

Btw Joker's graciousness has to be admired. he called JM del Potro a gentle giant and was funny as hell at Daniel Nestor's retirement roast.

The men's game is just a superior product, hands down. More speed, power and athleticism. And there's a boatload of young players coming up behind the Big Three. In addition to Zverev, Thiem and Kygrios (if he ever gets his head on straight), there's also Shapo, Coric, Tsitsipas, de Minaur and possibly Aliasime. It's very hard to say at this point who may emerge as dominant from this group.

I was also happy to see Osaka prevail on the women's side. Not only does she possess easy power but there's no screaming coming from her. The screaming is very irritating and, as she showed, completely unnecessary. Should be banned as far as I'm concerned.
