This coming month TFC will begin their pursuit of the CONCACAF Champions League. It's a tough draw with American winners Dallas FC, Club America and favorites Tigres Monterrey. So far the rumour of Gio going to Internazionale has not materialized, I'm hoping it never does. Four more days before the January transfer window closes.

Btw I haven't seen lovely Ms. Swzed on Sportsnet.

TFC shoring up their defence with vdWiel and Auro. This will mean a bright future is ahead:

    Toronto FC adds Brazilian defender

With just a week to go until Toronto FC plays its first competitive match of the year, the Reds have signed a second new defender.

The club announced Tuesday that Auro Alvaro da Cruz Junior — Auro, for short — is joining its ranks on loan, with an option to buy, from Brazilian club Sao Paolo FC

“Auro is a young and versatile defender that will provide us with flexibility within our lineup, both on the left and right side,” Reds general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a release.

Auro has already joined the team in pre-season training. He made his unofficial debut for the club on Tuesday in a friendly against Mexican side Cruz Azul FC.

The 22-year-old native of Sao Paulo made a combined 34 appearances in Brazil’s Serie A and the Campeonato Paulista over three seasons with his hometown club. He has been loaned out to Brazilian clubs before, first to Clube Atletico Linense in 2016 and more recently to America Futebol Clube last year, where he made a total of 14 appearances.

Auro, who played for Brazil at both the under-17 and under-20 youth levels, joins Toronto a little less than two weeks after it signed Dutch defender Gregory van der Wiel.

The newest face on Toronto’s roster should provide depth on both the left and right wings for the Reds, particularly in the 3-5-2 formation the club regularly uses.

Of the 23 players currently on the Reds’ roster, which has seven open spots remaining, eight are listed as defenders. That depth likely means Nicolas Hasler, who spent the bulk of last season playing on Toronto’s backline despite spending much of his career as a midfielder, will be employed farther up the field this season.

“I’m used to all kind of positions almost, so for me it doesn’t really matter,” Hasler said at the start of pre-season. “If I play, I want to do the best and I want to show what I can.”

TFC kicks off its season next Tuesday with the first leg of the first round of the CONCACAF Champions League against the Colorado Rapids in Denver

They won 2-1 but they should have gotten 2 more goals. We'll see how they do in mexico. TFC have a bye week this Sat while Tigres plays a regular league match on Sat before playing TFC on Tuesday. This could benefit TFC.

    I missed it, dayum.

It's going to be a tough match in Mexico. I looked up where Tigres is from: Monterrey which is the next stop from Laredo Texas. TFC will have to make up the away goal at altitude - at least the weather will be nice.

Osorio does a Ronaldinho, very nice. It's time for Osorio to become Canada's first true trequartista.

At the moment, with clubs opting for a three man offense, there aren't that many good trequartistas. Paul Pogba is not smart enough to play the role. The best one I've seen is danmand's paisan Christien Eriksen.

Amazing game going on right now ... what a kick !!! Tigres looked strong in the first half but TFC held on, then scored but they tied it up before that Giovinco free kick which was amazing... TFC trying to slow the pace for the remainder.

Edit: TFC loses 3-2 but go through 4-4 on away goals !!! That was a close one.

TFC hang to advance. Still would like to see TFC win in Mexico. Vanney not happy of the poor defending near the end of the game.

Great result. Thank God the game wasn't any longer because as it progressed, things were swinging more and more against TFC. But they held on.

But more importantly, who is that woman in your sig pic?

Three more wins and they represent CONCACAF at The World Club Cup. With means if they win the MLS Championship again, they wont have any time to celebrate.

Making the semi-finals and beating Mexican champs to get there is even bigger accomplishment.

All that matters is the trophy. Only one team gets that.

    Everything else is academic.

TFC beat Club America 3-1 in leg 1. Off to Mexico for the biggest test of them all.
